Highland splits with Argyle, loses to Belmont

Nate Michek was the victim of some hard luck Friday when he took his turn on the mound for Highland.
Michek fell victim to four costly errors by the Cardinals, all either putting an Argyle batter on base who scored or allowing runs to score.
Final score was 6-4.
"It was a tight game but we had some costly defensive miscues," said coach Terry Cool. "Nate pitched well but took the loss."
"JR Linscheid was 3 for 4 with a double but we could only knock him in once," said Cool.
Mitchell Welsh hit his first career home run, a solo shot in the sixth.
"We rallied in the seventh with second and third with one out but could not tie the game," Cool said
Welsh was 2x2 and Drew Drury was 2x3 for Highland. Drew Hennessey had one hit.
It wasn't baseball at its finest but it was a runfest that turned out in Highland's favor when they beat Argyle 19-11 in a slugfest the second game.
"It was a wild one," Cool said.
Drew Hennessey pitched the middle four innings for the win in a combined effort with JR Linscheid who worked the first two frames and Spencer Linscheid who came on in the last inning.
"Our defense turned two double plays to help end the first and sixth innings," said Cool. "The top of the order was huge. JR was 2 for 3 with 3 walks 5 runs and 5 steals. Evan Rusch went 3 for 5, with a double and 5 runs. Drew Hennessey was 3 for 5, with a double 3 runs and 4 rbi and Nate Michek 2 for 5 with a double, a home run and 4 rbi."
Belmont's Lane Kamps spaced seven hits and gave up only two runs as the Braves topped the Cardinals 12-2 in a Six Rivers West game last week.
The Braves sent a dozen batters to the plate the first inning and eight scored. Raine Voigts had a two run home run and Nate Knebel a three run shot to highlight the frame as Belmont put up eight hits and runs.
They added three in the fourth and ended it with one in the sixth.
The Cardinals scored their two runs in the third. JR Linscheid walked, Evan Rusch singled and they were plated by a double by Nate Michek and a single by Mitchell Welsh.
Nate Michek went 2x3 of an inning then was lifted in favor of Drew Hennessey. Michek fanned one and Hennessey eight.
"The wind was blowing out and they got two homers in the first," Cool said. "We tried to chip away but Kamps was tough and did a nice job in the wind."
