Cox shuts out Boscobel for Pointer win

Mineral Point baseball coach Jordan Tibbits is sure that freshmen Curtis Cox will remember his first pitching start of his high school career.
Cox took the mound against Boscobel Tuesday and turned in a 10-0 shutout. The SWAL game was stopped after five innings by the WIAA mercy rule.
Cox fanned seven, walked only one and hit a batter in his shutout performance. He was helped by a Pointer defense that played errorless ball.
The Pointers had six hits and were aided by five Bulldog errors. Joey Dolphin lead the Pointers with a double and single finishing 2x3. Curtis Cox, Brandon Dolphin, Dylan MacGilvra , and Jake Gorgen added one hit a piece.
"Great effort by Curtis tonight," Tibbits sad. "He did what we asked him to do and that was throw strikes. We put the ball in play and were patient at the plate. It was a good step in the right direction."
Friday the Pointers lost to Iowa-Grant in a SWAL game 11-5.
The Pointers had eight hits and committed two errors. The Panthers smacked out 11 hits and had one error.

"Although the score doesn't show it. I'm happy with our effort," Tibbits said. "We hit the ball hard and Zach did a good job of throwing strikes in his first time on the mound. Prairie du Chien is one of the best teams in our division and will make a strong push to the state tournament. We tried some new guys out at new positions."
