Along the Ad Routes

We received a nice note from longtime Dodgeville resident Virginia (Ginnie)
Cayler, who now lives in the Onalaska area. She wrote: "Hi Pat & Mike
- I would like to have the paper for one more year. I'd miss it terribly - like
to know what's going on in Dodgeville. Seems like a lot of new names - that's
good! Best wishes to both of you always! Ginnie Cayler.

Last Wednesday we found ourselves a little shorthanded when it came to
doing inserts into our papers. Enter the 4th generation of relatives - Danielle
and Grant Roh, kids of niece Shelly. They came in and did a great job helping
out and we hardly missed a beat in getting finished in a timely fashion.
Wednesday is pretty much my time to meet everyone at Bob's BBQ for lunch
and I made it really close to noon - the noon whistle was going off as I was
walking into the building!

I had something very odd happen to me last week while I was crossing the
street. I was coming out of Cobblestone Court and heading to my car that
was parked in the first stall on Iowa Street just past the East Chapel Street
corner. I was J-walking so I was waiting for vehicles to pass by. Two went
by and then the last one stopped. What was odd about that was it was an
IOWA car that stopped!

Last Sunday was Easter Sunday. We had a good crowd of people in church
as it is most every year on Easter. There were a bunch of people home for
the holiday to spend time with family and friends. I had a chance to at least
greet quite a few of them!

A good share of Pat's family, with me tagging along, had a nice Easter get
together and feed. We ended up at Country Kitchen in Dodgeville and they
put on a pretty darn good spread. Our waitress was Kennedy Kitelinger, an
Iowa-Grant senior who is going to La Crosse next year. She handled the
group of 13 - that included 7 kids - very well. I learned that longtime waitress
Sandy was working her final day there too. She has been with the CK staff
since day one. She will be missed!

It really was a downer with the UW Badgers losing their "Sweet 16" game
to Notre Dame. It surely wasn't that Notre Dame outplayed them as they didn't
for all but about 3:00. But it was the final minute that spelled doom for
the Badgers. A missed fast break layup, a steal on an inbound pass (where
there was a foul not called), and a steal right at the end where another foul
wasn't called all hurt. A little earlier the Badgers had a fast break layup they
made and the player was hammered while going up with the shot and another
"no call" didn't give them a plus one that could've made a huge difference
too. I'm not blaming the officials though. They call them as they see them.
Also the Badgers uncharacteristically had a lot of turnovers. In all, though,
the team (and coach Greg Gard) exceeded expectations this season. Above,
coach Greg Gard stares out on the court at the end of the Notre Dame game
with two talented freshmen Khailil Iverson and Ethan Happ (right) beside
him.
