Barneveld girls make it a 4 peat to state

"I never expected to go four times in a row," were Barneveld senior guard Hannah Whitish's comments after her team wrapped up that fourth trip to state Saturday afternon wiht a 66-34 win over Hillsboro in a Division 5 sectional final girls basketball game.
She also hit the opening shot of the contest with a three pointer from near the top of the key. That put the Eagles on their way to a 10-0 run at the start. She followed with a two pointer, her cousin Mia Whitish sank two free throws and Hannah drained another nothing but net three.
Hillsboro got on the board with a free throw at the 15:05 mark of the first half and trailed 37-14 by halftime.
And Hannah Whitish scored 25 of her game-high 33 in the first half. That include five of her seven from downtown.
"They (Hillsboro) started out in a man defense so we ran a set to free up Hannah for a three point try. It went through in nothing but net style and I knew she was going to be on," said Barneveld coach Doug Pickarts following the win.
Mia Whitish popped in 13 points and Teegan Pickarts joined in the three pint parade with two and finished with 10 points.
In all seven girls scored with 12 playing and contributing.
Hillsboro was led in scoring by sophomore Sydney Johnson with 13 points with their big girl, senior Morgan Huntley, held to eight.
"I was very happy with the way our defense moved their feet all day. We made their big kids work for any points they got," Pickards pointed out. "I thought we really got after it at both ends of the floor - except for a short time in the second half when we were a little too content and they hit a few shots - but we answered right away."
Another senior starter, Mattie Schave, said about going to the Resch Center again, "It's a really good feeling. Right now I can't really describe it."
Senior guard and starter Kelsee Fargo said, It's amazing. Oh my gosh the last four years. I'm so proud of the team."
"There's been a lot of pressure on these kids this season, Pickarts said. "I think they answered the questions. Now we'll see what happens at Green Bay."
The Eagles (27-0) take on Clayton (26-1) at 9:05 Friday morning.
The game following pits Fall River (22-4) aagainst Wisconsin Rapids Assumption (23-4), two teams Barneveld beat earlier at the JAG in Wisconsin Dells.
