Dodgers overcome Arrows in OT

It was a game where Dodgeville fans could only sit and watch as several shot, whether from long range, short or lay-in variety, went down and came out way too often.
So often that they saw overtime at the end of regulation.
And Lancaster was shooting well.
But, in the end the Dodgers prevailed over a stubborn Arrow squad 62-58 to end the conference season in second place in the SWC with an 8-3 record.
"We controlled the game for 30 minutes," said Dodger coach Matt McGraw. "Lancaster made a late run to tie and force overtime. "We shot the ball well in overtime and used one another to get good looks."
In that overtime, senior Trent McGraw hit the first five points, forcing the Arrows to play catch up. That put them into a position where they had to foul and although the Dodgers didn't shoot free throws particularly well in regulation, they sank 9 of 12 in the extra period.
"We got some timely steals in overtime," McGraw added. "They had to foul and we responded going 9 for 12 from the line."
Jones finished the game with 32 points including 9 in OT when he was 4x4 from the line. He was the lone Dodger in double figures.
"Trent does nothing selfishly," the coach said. "He got by his man several times in the overtime. He lets the game come to him."
"I was happy with the fact that we were battle tested in the game because you need that going into the tournaments," McGraw pointed out.
Next high scorer for the Dodgers was Houston Stanek from off the bench with eight.
That prompted McGraw to say, "Houston had a couple of big plays for us to help us secure the win. He made a steal and basket in regulation when Lancaster was making their final run."
The Arrows had four players hit in double figures led by Jayson Jones with 17 points. Drew Reuter added 14 with Josh Hentrich hitting 11 and Larry Moore III with 10.
The Dodgers had a bye in round one of the D3 regionals and will face the winner of the #7 Wautoma and #10 Richland Center game from Tuesday night on Friday.
