After 5 events at member businesses. Last week one such event was held at
the former Metropolitan Art Building that now holds the Community Connections
Free Clinic and some Southwest Community Action Programs. It
was hosted by the Community Action Program (CAP). It's a chance for business
people to take tours and talk with people they probably don't usually
get to talk with. They learn a lot about the programs offered as well as meeting
staff - and that goes both directions. The above photo shows people conversing
at the event and enjoying some snacks and beverages!

The Green Bay Packers Tailgate Tour was well received in the area the Sunday
before last. It raised some pretty good money for the Iowa County Humane
Society.

Last weekend was very hot and humid. We did receive some much needed
rain during the night on Saturday into Sunday morning. The good thing about
that rain was the time it came - when the sun was down. That moisture usually
gets to soak into the soil and plants a lot better than if it comes during daylight
hours.

A lot of people made the trek to Madison to watch players in the American
Family sponsored golf tournament that Wisconsin pro golfer Steve Stricker
hosted. It had to be a lot of fun watching Stricker, and fellow (former) pro
golfer Andy North team up with former Green Bay Packers Brett Favre and
Mark Tauscher for "scramble" type play. North and Tauscher won by a stroke
over Stricker and Favre! Tauscher once played high school basketball against
Dodgeville - he was a bull inside!

Saturday I made it to the Highland Little Britches Rodeo and then went to
the Matinee Harness Racing at the Iowa County Fairgrounds in Mineral
Point. Then I caught the championship Cal Ripken baseball game between
Bayport and Dodgeville at Harris Park. It was extremely "hot" at each event.
I began taking photos at 11:00 a.m. and finished around 5:30 p.m.

At the Little Britches Rodeo, there were a lot of youngsters having fun
doing what the "Big Cowboys/Cowgirls" do, but there weren't a lot of "local"
contestants - meaning youngsters from Iowa County. At the Matinee Harness
races, there weren't a lot of people watching, and there were only six races.
Both of those events used to draw a lot of attention from the area - but there
are a lot more things for the youngsters to take advantage of each year!

The 4th of July is next Monday. There will be events in Mineral Point,
Ridgeway, Lone Rock and other area spots. Fireworks will be aplenty and
fun will be too!
