Pointers, Eagles miss advancing to state


Mineral Point's golf team finished eighth out of the 12-team Luther WIAA Division 3 Sectional held at River Run Golf Course in Sparta Wednesday.
The Pointers shot an 18-hole total of 355 with Mondovi winning at 338. Cochrane-Fountain City was runner-up and will also advance to state with a 340.
Argyle/Pecatonica finished fourth with 345 and had the day's medalist in senior Mitchell Steiner who fired a two-over-par 74. He will advance to state as an individual golfer.
Barneveld's team totaled 392 to place 10th.
Also advancing individually are Lancaster junior Josh Hentrich (76) and Abundant Life/Madison County senior Andrew Maier with a 79.
The Pointers were led by senior Tyler Hoke's 84 with Dane Pfaff at 86, Tobi Funke with 87, Kaleb Pillng with 98 and Riley Workman at 100.
Following Steiner's top round for Argyle/Pec were Mathew Severson with 85, Dylan Stietz and Mason Holcolmb at 93 and Tyler Wahl with 111.
Barneveld's top round came from Lucas Evans with a 96. Austin Parks and Connor Carden both hit 98 with Matthew Myers at 100 and Seth Adelman with 105.
Iowa-Grant's two individual golfers, Brady Peat and Hunter Klaas, carded respective rounds of 83 and 93.
Final team scores were: Mondovi 338, Cochrane-Fountain City 340, Abundant Life/Madison County 342, Argyle/Pecatonica 345, Luther 346, Canbridge 349, New Glarus 352, Mineral Point 355, Durand 376, Barneveld 392, Canbria-Friesland 404, Markesan 413.
