JR Linscheid's blow advances Cards

John Ross Linscheid pitched and hit Highland's baseball team to a Division 4 Regional Championship last Wednesday in a 3-1 win over Cassville.
The game was all zeros for the first four innings before the visiting Comets broke for a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth.
Cassville's Brandon Kinyon singled before the second out was recorded. A walk and another single by Cam Jensen loaded the bases.
Linscheid plunked Colin Esser with a pitch to plate the run.
The Cardinals knotted things in the bottom of the sixth as Evan Rusch walked and went to second on a balk. Drew Drury singled him to third and Nate Michek brought him home.
The Cardinals also had runners on second and third in that frame with nobody out, but three groundouts to the pitcher stopped that rally.
The top of the seventh saw the Comets with two runners on, but Linscheid fanned Esser and Jack Jensen to end the threat.
But, in the bottom of the seventh, Spencer Linscheid had reached base with a walk after fouling off a bunch of pitches and was sacrificed to second by Adan Wolfe. That set the stage for JR Linscheid's two-run home run over the left field fence.
"With the wind blowing hard from right field the only question about that hit was would it stay fair, said Highland coach Terry Cool. JR was sitting curve ball and got it and then got it all."
"Spencer had an eight pitch at bat to get on and then Adam had a great sacrifice bunt."
JR Linscheid struck out seven, waked five and gave up four hits and one run. He also hit a batter.
Cassville's Christian Reynolds worked four innnings and didn't allow a run while striking out four and walking one. He allowed only two hits.
Cam Jensen finished working 2 1/3. He struck out one, walked two and allowed the three runs and three hits while hitting one batter.
The win pitted Highland against Ithaca, a 6-2 winner over Riveredale, in sectionals Tuesday at Weston at 1 p.m..
