Eagles advance over Ponies

Barneveld scored four times in the first inning and never looked back in a 9-4 Division 4 baseball win over Monticello in round two of tourney play.
Sam Shatrawka had a two-out single that plated two runs while Trevor Siegenthaler had an earlier groundout that scored a run as did Will Clausen's sacrifice fly.
The Ponies made it interesting though as they plated three runs in the third to make it 4-3. The big blow was a three-run homer by Dez Hanenberger.
But the Eagles scored another run in the third as Siegenthaler singled and scored on a double by Caleb Behnke.
After the Ponies scored a run in the fourth, the Eagles scored three more times in their half of that frame.
They scored on a passed ball, a rbi double by Dalton Schaller and a Siegenthaler groundout.
Their final run in the sixth scored as Siegenthaler took home on a passed ball.
Shatrawka, Schaller and Siegenthaler each had two hits for the Eagles with Trey Laube, Clausen, Jacob Slaney and Behnke each rapping one.
Siegenthaler struck out 11, walked five and allowed four runs on five hits.
Monticello's Trent Siegenthaler worked 3 1/3 innings allowing eight runs and seven hits with three walks and a strikeout.
Billy Spahr went the final 2 2/3 striking out four while walking three. He allowed an unearned run and three hits.
Spahr, Hanenberger, Logan Marty, Siegenthaler and Braden Gafner had the hits for Monticello.
"We needed the extra practice we got by being the top seed," said Barneveld coach Lance Schmitz.
"The kids were quicker and they sense some urgency now. They know what they need to do."
"We executed everything - sacrifices and bunts for hits. We played phenomenal defense. For our seniors this will be their third straight regional final."
"Dalton Schaller had a huge double for us two drive in two runs and give us a cushion," he concluded.
Barneveld plays the Williams Bay/Catholic Central winner sometime later this week as their Tuesday maych-up was postponed due to rain.
