24 Dodge-Point track members head to state


Dodgeville-Mineral Point Track and Field teams will be represented by six relay teams and one individual competitor in Division 2 at the state championships at UW-La Crosse Friday and Saturday.
The lone individiual is returnee Syd Staver, who qualified in the long jump at 16'10" and rated 8th among the jumpers. She finished 6th to reach the podium last year. She will also compete in two relays.
The girls 4x200 team of Jaynie Gorgen, Staver, Marissa Parkin and Jalissa Weier qualified with a time of 1:46.97 and is ranked 11th out of 18 teams. Alternate runners are Malorie Johnson and Alexa Bohnsack.
Also the 4x400 team of Kennedy Stumpf, Brittany Rhyner, Weier and Staver ran a time of 4:05.2, good for 8th out of 16 teams. Alternates are Marissa Parkin and Josie Jabs.
The boys will send every relay team.
The 4x800 team of Payton and Isaac Grunow, Gerrit Bakker and Jack Schickel finished in 8:06.55 and is 3rd out of 16 teams. Alternates are Declan McGraw and Dakota Gradel.
The 4x400 team of Kyle Fitzsimmons, Schickel, Josh Shepler and Nate Isenzimmer will go in 11th out of 17. Alternates: Gradel and Kevin Eisenzimmer.
The 4x200 team of Fitzsimmons, Nate Eisenzimmer, Noah Goetzke and Shepler was 16th out of 18 in 1:32.25. Alternates: John Phelan and Chad Yeager.
The 4x100 team of Fitzsimmons, Phelan, Goetzke and Shepler ran 44.41, good for 16th out of 18 teams. Alternates: Lucas Sanchez and Jacob Wedig.
Other sectional finishes were: girls-4x800 relay (Mackenzie Hall, Stumpf, Sydney Judd, Rhyner) 5th 9:7.99; 100 hurdles-Alyssa Belling 14th 18.7; 1600-Cassie McGraw 11th 5:48.10; 4x100 (Gorgen, Sara polinag, Jaycie Runde, Weier) 6th 51.48; 800-Rhyner 10th 2:28.56; high jump-Staver 8th 4'10", Malorie Johnson 12th 4'10" (jumps); triple jump-Alexa Bohnsack 12th 32'4".
Boys: 800-Jack Schickel 15th 2:10.48.
"Except for one relay, girls 4 x 800, we did as well as expected," said Dodge-Point coach Joe Hanson. " We still have about 24 kids making the trip to La Crosse. But I really thought the 4 x 800 for the girls would've ended up better."
River Valley has two competitors in five events.
Kyle Thomas, a junior, ran a 10.83 100 and is seeded #1, but three other runners were within .14 of his time.
He also ran the 200 in 22.07 and is seeded 3rd. Teammate Nya Jones, a senior, ran 23.0 and is seeded 13th out of the 18 qualifiers.
Thomas also is seeded 4th in the long jump with a 21'5.5" effort at sectional.
Senior Cole Eastlick tossed the shot 51'3.5" and is seeded 8th.
