Along the Ad Routes
By Mike Reilly-mreilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com
young guys were crossing at an intersection in the downtown Dodgeville area
waving one of the orange flags that signals motorists to stop. Well, you'd
never guess which state the license of the car that DID NOT STOP for these
guys came from??? That's right IOWA!
The second one goes the other way as I was walking across the street to
my car after coming out of Cobblestone Coffee house (getting a "Mint to be
in the Chronicle"). I was looking both ways and one vehicle was coming
from the north. Since I was J-walking I didn't expect that vehicle to stop for
me to cross. But, 'lo and behold it did stop - and it was an IOWA licensed
vehicle!

Oh, I do have another IOWA licensed story to tell. The other day I was
heading west on Highway 18 and had a vehicle tailgating me. I had my cruise
set on 61 MPH so I didn't pay a lot of attention to the vehicle behind me.
When I reached the "slow traffic keep right" spot in the road, that IOWA licensed
vehicle roared past me like I was standing still!

We received a note with a renewal last week. It read: "Enclosed find my
check for $42 for renewal for one year following. We enjoy keeping up to
date on what is happening in our home town even if we don't receive it sometimes
until Saturday. Thanks, Joanne Heun" She lives in Madison and surely
should receive the paper by Friday, if not Thursday!

The Dodgeville Knights Home Talent Baseball Team is inching closer to a
playoff spot after beating Verona two Sundays ago and then taking care of
Mount Horeb/Pine Bluff this past Sunday. They were tied with the Bluffers
going into Sunday's game. One of the big reasons why is the sometimes starting
pitching and sometimes closing pitching of Danny Sullivan, who is a former
Dodgeville high School star as well as MATC hurler and Madison
Mallards pitcher. I have him shown above closing Sunday's contest with a
7-5 win (after being down 4-0 before the Knights came to bat in the first inning).

Saturday was a first for me. I went to the Rewey Fireworks! I am not really
a "firework" kind of guy, but this year cousin Jeannette, her husband Jack
and his brother Ron and wife Kathy were going, so I met them there. There
sure are a lot of people packed into that ballpark area with a lot going on for
all ages. The display by Kastner Pyrotechnics was as billed - it was quite the
display! The entire show is what most villages have as the grand finale!

Before heading to Rewey, I stopped at Centennial Park and when I was
leaving I spotted former Dodgevillite Janel (Jones) and her husband Dave
walking towards the park. Janel was one of the people I worked with at Las
Maria's Mexican Restaurant in Dodgeville. She was in high school. They
were going to the fireworks and stopping at her uncle's house (Steve Jones)
first - that was right next to the ballpark. So, I stopped in at the Jones house
to say hi before going into the park.
