Mineral Point wrestlers went unbeaten in the Northern Exposure dual team tournament held over the holidays at Merrill.
Their closest bout came in the finals when they topped Oconto Falls by 10 points.
They had five wrestlers go unbeaten on the day in 106 lb. Danny Pittz, 132 lb. Logan Schmitz, 138 lb. Brandon Forseth, 145 lb. Boone Schmitz and 170/182 lb. Scotty Pittz. Brady Palzkill also won his only match at 126.
Lucas Sanchez (152), Kyle Juedes (195) and Caden Carey (113) all were 5-2 while Zach Cummins (285) and Curtis Cox (120) each were 4-3.
Chris Ley (220) and Riley Workman (160) both went 3-4 with Mitchell Schaaf (126) 3-3.
"The matches were a lot closer than the scores,' said Pointer coach Scott Schmitz. "We won a lot of close matches when we needed to win them."
In talking about the matches, Schmitz said, "Rosholt had a lot of forfeits, but some pretty decent kids. In the Rice Lake match I was happy that we beat two previously unbeaten kids. Merrill has a solid team, but we got a lot of bonus points. That's what we concentrated on doing in certain matches.
"In the Kewaskum match we really had the momentum going. In the finals of the first day against Beaver Dam - thay have a balanced team -our first four weights got us valuable pointss and then several others wrestled real well too.
"On the second day we got West Allis just after they had lost on a major in their last match. They were a little down and we jumped on them. Scotty and Sawyer started out with big pins and Kyle got a huge win. We battled at 220 and heavyweight and then our lightweights and middle weights came through for us with just a little hiccup.
"Agains Oconto Falls Brandon won an overtime match and Logan won a big match and we won an overtime match at 132. Again we won the close matches."
"Our maturity level is coming," Schmitz said about the tournament.
The Pointers host Darling-ton/Black Hawk Friday night for Hall of Fame Night.
