Point trips Hillmen in tourney

Mineral Point's boys basketball teamplayed a tenacious first half and walked way from their own Holiday Tournament with a consolation win over Platteville 65-48 Wednesday.
Junior 6'5" Jack Warrick scored 15 of his 21 points in that first half while 6'1" sophomore Chance Wendhausen hit 11 of his game high 23.
The Pointers led 37-24 at the half.
The Hillmen were led in scoring by Alex Traxler and Dillon Shinee, both with 13 points.
"I was pleased with our effort tonight.," said Pointer coach Dan Burreson. "We were much more active defensively. We had a team effort on the boards and we shared the ball well on offense. We have found this year that we are capable of doing some good things, but we need to find a level of consistentcy and that will come with a consistent effort."
About the two-day tournament, Burreson pointed out, "It was a real good tournament by Chance Wendhausen in spite of being hobbled the past couple weeks with an ankle injury. Now we can get him a few days to rest it. I really could not ask much more from him on either end of the floor.
"Jack Warrick had a very good tourney as well with two more double doubles including a career high 21 points against Platteville. Dylan MacGilvra had his best overall night of the year with 9 points and 7 rebounds. We need those kind of numbers from Dylan every game.
"Lance Steffes played real well defensively to go along with 5 assists and 5 rebounds. Dane Pfaff shot the ball well from the field and added 5 rebounds. We had good minutes off of the bench by Justin Toay, Jake Gorgen, Brant James and Logan Bidlingmaier."
