Along the Ad Routes

We received a nice note along with a renewal for the Chronicle from Patricia
Haas. She wrote: "Enclosed is a check for another year of the Chronicle.
I enjoy the paper very much. I like the Cobb News as I grew up around Cobb.
Carolyn Nagel Thomas was our neighbor while we were on the farm."

Congratulations to both the Mineral Point girls basketball team and the
Iowa-Grant boys basketball team for clinching their respective SWAL championships
this past week - both for the first time in quite awhile. The Barneveld
girls team clinched the Six River East a while ago and the Barneveld
boys did the same when they beat Pecatonica a week or so ago - great job by
both of them too!

The Dodgeville Chamber of Commerce held its annual banquet Thursday
night at Barn 23 just north of Dodgeville. I remember that place best as the
Don Q Inn Restaurant! There was a very good turnout and meal plus the entertainment
(Murder By Magic) was pretty good too. Several local business
people took part in solving the "Murder" and I was one of the "down to the
wire" suspects! Congratulations to Denny Marklein and his family for being
named Business People of the Year! They really deserve it with Marklein
Auto Body being in business for a long time and now the fairly "new" creation
of Cobblestone Court that houses Cobblestone Coffee House, Duke's
Brew Pub & Ale House, The Confessional Wine Bar, and Aztlan Mexican
Restaurant. It was also the first location for Bob's Bitchin' BBQ and Our
Front Porch Candle & Gift Shop. Bob's has since moved to the former True
Value building for more space while Our Front Porch moved one building to
the north (Dodgeville Travel) for the same reason.

Congratulations and good luck to our local wrestlers from Dodgeville,
Iowa-Grant/Highland, Mineral Point and River Valley as well as all the area
wrestlers who will be competing in Divisions 2 & 3 at the WIAA State Individual
Championships starting Thursday night at the Kohl Center in Madison.
Mineral Point has 7 competing, River Valley 5, Iowa-Grant/Highland 4 and
Dodgeville 1. River Valley and Fennimore will be representing the SWC and
SWAL Conferences respectively the following week at the State Team
Championships at the Fieldhouse in Madison..

Girls basketball playoffs began Tuesday night with the boys tournaments
beginning the following Tuesday (March 1). We definitely have some teams
who are in the "real" running for berths at the Resch Center (girls) and the
Kohl Center (boys). It will be fun following the teams!

If you haven't seen the "4 Amigos" video that didn't get shown at the chamber
banquet due to time restraints, then you can watch it on the Dodgeville
Chamber of Commerce Facebook page. It's kind of interesting, but not very
professional nor is the acting very good! Actually Bob Kratochwill does a
great job as the detective!
