Pointers ease past Riverdale

Balance scoring was the key to the Mineral Point boys basketball team's 56-44 win at Riverdale.
Jack Warrick hit a game-high 17 points with 10 coming in the 34-point second half. Chance Wendhausen added 12 and Dylan MacGilvra 10.
Eight of the 11 players found the bottom of the net for the Pointers.
Riverdale used a tight perimeter defense on the Pointers to counteract their prolific three point shooting. And when they did have a fairly open shot, the shots didn't seem to fall. Their lone three came from a somewhat unlikely player in Lance Steffes, who hit 8 points on the night.
Steffes also hauled down nine rebounds to lead the team. Warrick, MacGilvra and Wendehausen each had eight boards with Dane Pfaff garnering six.
"We had a good team effort tonight. A few more guys contributed, especially on the boards," said Pointer coach Dan Burreson.
"We did a nice job of moving the basketball and finding the open man. We also had great team effort on the glass," he added.
Another plus Burreson said came from a "good finish inside by Nate Eisenzimmer off of a nice feed from Logan Bidlingmaier.
"I have said all along we are at our best when we get more balance, not just in terms of scoring but in all facets of the game. Tonight we got that," he concluded.
The Chieftains had three players lead them in scoring with 10 points each - Ethan Haffner, Dakota Fiebranz and Elijah Cannon.
The Poionters travel to Fennimore Friday night to cvlose out conference action. They host River Ridge Monday in a non-conference regular season finale.
