Cuban comeback stops Pointers

It was definitely a "tale of two halves" Tuesday night at Mineral Point as the Pointers dropped a 64-51 decision to Cuba City in SWAL play.
The Cubans led most of the first half until late when Brant James hit a couple of three pointers and Jack Warrick a bucket and some free throws and the Pointers held a 34-26 lead at the intermission.
But, then came the second half and the second part of the tale.
The Cubans outscored the Pointers 38-17.
Cuba City's Ben Burkholder took over the game with 17 of his game high 25 points.
Also, Blake Robson scored all of his 15 points, with three buckets coming from long range.
Jake Droessler had 8 of his 10 in the first half.
The Pointers' Jack Warrick scored 11 ofr his 14 in the first half. Dylan MacGilvra added 10 points.
"In the first half I thought we were the aggressor and in the second half we let them take the game to us," said Pointer coach Dan Burreson. Also in the first half we limited them to one shot and seemed to get the loose balls. In the second half they won all the effort battles. Still we battled back and took the lead late, but we continued to let them dictate the game."
The coach added, "Brant James shot the ball very well for us in the first half. The way I believe he is capable of shooting the ball. Lance Steffes is starting to become a lot more consistent offensively. He has put extra time in and it is starting to pay off. Jack Warrick and Dylan MacGilvra did some good things tonight. "
"We know what we are capable of, but are still searching for consistency. It needs to start with consistent effort," Burreson concluded.
