I was at my favorite "Not So QUALITY BAKERY" the other day and there
was a lady in there buying a bunch of bakery items. In talking with her it was
found out that she and her husband are from Iowa City, Iowa and pass through
Dodgeville every so often on their way to visit relatives in the Green Bay/Appleton
area. When they are in Dodgeville they ALWAYS buy bakery items,
stop at Kozelka & Wall and walk out with several packages, stop at a coffee
shop, grab a bite to eat and gas up their vehicle. In all, that's a pretty good
chunk of money they drop here 3-4 times a year!

Congratulations to Mineral Point's 6'3" senior Jessica Schultz as she joined
teammate Clara Chambers to the 1000 point club in scoring on the basketball
court. Jessica Schultz's mother has Dodgeville ties as she was Amanda Gollon
before marrying. In our coverage area, this season, Barneveld's Hannah
Whitish is the other girl to reach that mark this season. On the boys side
Dodgeville senior Trent Jones and Iowa-Grant senior Isaac Anderson have
accomplished that feat as have Barneveld junior Matthew Myers and Highland
junior JR Linscheid. Congratulations to all!

University of Wisconsin Men's Basketball Coach Greg Gard (originally
from Cobb and an Iowa-Grant graduate) sure has his team on the right track.
They have won seven straight games in the tough Big 10 with their latest win
over #2 nationally ranked Maryland Saturday by a nice 70-57 margin and it
was on the road!

One of Maryland's top players is 6'11" Diamond Stone, who played his
high school basketball in Wisconsin at Whitefish Bay Dominican. You might
remember him playing against (and beating) Mineral Point's boys team in
the Division 4 finals last year. They had a team that could've beaten probably
every team in the tournament no matter what division. Anyway against the
UW he wrestled UW's Vitto Brown out of bounds going after a rebound and
then pushed his head into the floor while getting to his feet after laying on
top of him. When you do something like that it is a Flagrant 2 Foul and you
are ejected from the game immediately. But, for some unknown reason, after
the referees reviewed it, they gave him a Flagrant 1 which is a Techinal Foul
resulting in free throws. I couldn't believe it! I hope the Big 10 reveiws those
officials' decision and they get reprimanded!

The state tournament(s) trail started Saturday with regional wrestling. Tuesday
night the girls basketball playoffs begin with the boys the following Tuesday.
We have several "coverage area" teams that have a good shot of being
either at the Resch Center in Green Bay (girls) or the Kohl Center in Madison
(boys) as far as basketball goes. Undoubtedly there will be some wrestlers at
the Kohl Center in two weeks too as we have VERY competative wrestling
in this area!

Talking about wrestling - check out the above photo with passionate (to say
the least) wrestling fans from Mineral Point during the regional Saturday at
Riverdale!
