Pointers trip Benton 81-52

Eight girls scored in each half as the Mineral Point girls basketball team came up with an 81-52 win over a pesky Benton team on the road Saturday.
Jessica Schultz led four Pointers who reached double figures with 19 points. Clara Chambers added 13, Syd Staver chipped in 12 and senior Myah Aschliman came off the bench to score 10.
The Pointers held a 48-29 lead at halftime.
Benton's Emma Lawrence led the Lady Zephyrs with 14 points, scoring 10 in the first half.
Payton Bastian and Kayla Dougherty added 11 and 10.
"Benton is a very good team. All 8 players do an excellent job handling the ball, making the extra pass and hitting the open shot when they get it," said Pointer coach Mitch Wainwright. "Our advantage was in the post with Jessica Schultz, they just didn't have anyone that could match her size."
He added, "It was another good night with balanced scoring from the team. Cassie Bossert and Myah Aschliman had their best nights scoring this season having 7 and 10 points respectively. McKenzie Schmitz also did a great job with 7 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals, playing a lot of minutes with Destinee in fouls trouble."
"Clara Chambers also had another double-double with 10 assists to go along with her 13 points," he concluded.
