Linscheid hits 1000, but Highland loses

John Ross Linscheid hit his 1000th career point in the first half, but his 45 point total for the night wasn't enough for the Highland boys basketball team to get by Wisconsin Heights Thursday night with the final score being 71-65..
The Cardinal junior needed 22 to reach the magic total and he nailed one of his patented three pointers to reach it. He finished the night hitting six from downtown.
"JR has been on a terror," said Highland coach Mitchell Dorshorst. "He's tough to scout because he makes shots that you are never really ready for. He makes it look easy, but he's put in a lot of hard and extra work to get to where he is. But I know he'd trade that 1000th point for a win tonight."
Heights led 41-38 at halftime, but the Cards took the lead late in the game. A three pointer from the wing by Vanguard junior Tylan Parman put his team back on top. Then a made free throw followed by a miss really hurt when Heights came up with the offensive rebound and had a put back for a four point lead. They hit free throws the rest of the way to seal the win.
"They hit the big shot, but when they missed that free throw and got the put back it really sank us," Dorshorst said. "I thought our energy was pretty good tonight, but we are shorthanded and had to juggle who was on the court due to foul trouble. But we battled - that's all you can ask."
Besides Linscheid's total, 6'3" freshman Derek Miller, hit 11 with nine coming in the second half.
Heights was led by senior Anthony Caminiti's 25 points with Tylan Parman adding 21 and senior Camden Parman hitting 15.
Tylan Parman connected for 14 in the first half and then traded places with Caminiti, who had 14 in the second.
