Dodgers take Hawks in double overtime win

After trailing River Valley's girls basketball team by 17 points in the second half Dodgeville went on a comeback run to claim a SWC win in double overtime 69-61.
Well, make that run courtesy of Kara Crowley and Hannah Jones who scored all but one of the Dodgeville points the second half. Crowley had 25 of her 41 points the second half and overtimes while Jones scored all 19 of her total in the same time frame.
Katie Cushman added a free throw to complete the second half scoring.
Both teams had 11 points the first overtime with the Dodgers outdistancing the Hawks 11-3 in the second extra period for the win.
Crowley kept the Dodgers in the game the first half with 16 points. Seven of her baskets were three pointers.
Kylie Hoffman led River Valley with 20 points and Taylor Briehl added 19.
Dodgeville coach Mark Dooley called the comeback win a true team effort.
"Kara got 41 but everyone got into it," he said. "We hit our stride with 14 minutes left. Our aggressiveness was off the charts and we finished at the rim."
"It was a case of never giving up," Dooley added. "It was a team effort and the kids off the bench all contributed too. We got some good minutes from everyone especially Ellie Argall and Alicia Benson."
"We also had a good night shooting free throws," Dooley said as the Dodgers made 13 of 18.
"We still had a two point lead with under 20 seconds left but missed both shots in double bonus," River Valley coach Brent Johnson said. "Missed free throws and turnovers by our experienced players down the stretch kept us from salting the game away."
"We had stretches where we played well but we made too many dumb passes," Johnson continued. "We had our chances but couldn't hit free throws or take care of the ball."
As for Crowley's outburst......
"We had her but she managed to hit some tough shots with a hand in her face," Johnson said. "I would say of her 41, she earned 36 of them by making tough shots."
