Dodgers ease past Blackhawks

For awhile River Valley's boys basketball team may have wondered what hit them.
Dodgeville used some crisp passing to create open shots and cruised to a 41-14 halftime lead. Things didn't change much the second half as the Dodgers continued to a 75-48 win.
"This was the best overall team game we've played all year," said Dodgeville coach Matt McGraw. "We were making the extra pass, played great team defense, our help defense was there all night long. There was consistent energy from everyone."
The Dodgers took a 27 point lead at halftime and kept it that way the rest of the game.
"We took control early and kept pushing the tempo and pace of the game," McGraw said.
Trent Jones, who recently eclipsed the 1000 point plateau, had 17 of his 21 the first half. Bryce Prochaska, sophomore post, had nine of his 11 in the opening 18 minutes and Jordan Larson made it a trifecta of scoring with 10, also in the first half.
Larson finished with 10, Prochaska 11 and Houston Stanek 10.
"It's nice to see different guys stepping up into higher roles and contributing both offensively and defensively," McGraw said. "Houston Stanek was one of those tonight."
"Jordan Larson executed with the drive as well as making shots from the outside," McGraw added. "Josh Shepler and Isaac Nagel really did a good job handling their pressure and distributing the ball. Bryce controlled the inside, rebounding and with his physical play. He completely controlled the paint tonight."
Giving a promise that the best is yet to come McGraw said, "The entire team is progressing, but we still have more in us."
"Dodgeville played extremely well, said River Valley coach Luke Thatcher who guided the Blackhawks to a win over the Dodgers early in the season. "They did a good job sharing the basketball. They also made us take some shots we are not comfortable taking and defensively they took Hunter Schwingle and Derek Wedige away, making others take shots."
"For us it was a defensive let down, missed shots and a poor performance from the free throw line," Thatcher continued. "Prochaska had a major performance for them with nine the first half while taking away Tanner Gruber and Stanek brought energy to their game with 10 points."
"Dodgeville put together and executed a good game plan and they are playing really well right now."
Kurt Schaller led River Valley with 11 points and Mason Horton added 10.
