Chambers clears 1000 points in win over IG

It was a record setting night for Mineral Point senior Clara Chambers as Mineral Point's girls basketball team rolled past Iowa-Grant 60-31.
Chambers eclipsed the 1000 point mark for her career with 13 points and with 10 assists, having a double-double in the process. Her record setting points came in the first half.
Jessica Schultz, Mineral Point's 6-3 senior post, owned the inside and slipped in 21 points to lead all scorers.
"Jessica had a great night scoring in the post and from the free throw line," said Mineral Point coach Mitch Wainwright. "Her first six points came from two old fashioned three point plays. "
The Pointers went through their entire line-up and nine girls scored.
"As a team, we used great ball movement around Iowa-Grant's zone defense and found the open girl a lot," said Wainwright. "We actually had 22 assists on 22 made field goals. A good night for everyone to get playing time and contribute to the teams' success."
"That is a team that should go deep in the post season," Iowa-Grant coach Craig Jenkins said.
Going into the game Jenkins knew it would be hard to compete with Mineral Point's size, depth and experience.
"I asked the girls for their maximum effort and I got it," Jenkins said. "That is the only thing we can control and do something about. I was happy with the performance. We consistently competed across the board."
Jenkins said Maddie Harmening got extra time as Mariah Ginter recovers from a wrist injury.
"She did what we asked and worked hard against their size," Jenkins said.
He added Hailey Roth also worked the middle and put in six points.
"She played with confidence," Jenkins said.
"We wanted to accomplish something in this game and be competitive," Jenkins said. "The girls did that very well."
Hailey Yelinek led the Panthers with 10 points.

Panthers lose close one to Fennimore in cream can game
The Golden Arrows retained the cream can after edging Iowa-Grant's girls basketball team 54-52 last week.
The Panthers led by four with minutes left when Cheyanne Udelhoven drilled a three pointer.
After two missed free throws by the Panthers, Fennimore's Courtney Lenzendorf scored with 12 seconds left to give the Eagles the win.
"We were all over Udelhoven," Jenkins said. "She can hit the three off the dribble and was four for five from beyond the line."
Udelhoven played a role in the winning points as she spied Lenzendorf in the clear and got an assist on the winning shot.
"We had tremendous effort and played extremely well but we are at a point where we need to get over the hump in the close ones," Jenkins said. "It is a hurdle we have to start clearing."
