some 4-6 inches of that white stuff, but the winds didn't really reach the 40
MPH they were supposed to. Also we did get some rain to make things a
little dicey later on in the day, but it wasn't all that terrible. Although the
scanner was going all day long with slide offs!

I ran into someone who said that winter wasn't their favorite season by any
means. I replied, "Actually I like all the seasons. Going through all four
means I have made it another year!"

We received a somewhat different letter from a subscriber last week. It read:
"Dear Chronicle Staff, I called your office last month to report that I did not
receive my paper through no fault of your own. It appears the paper was misplaced
in someone else's mailbox. I do not know who the gentleman was that
I talked to but he was very helpful and sent me another copy of the paper in
an envelope with first class postage on it. Thank you very much. There were
a few items in that copy of the paper that made me glad that I received it.
First and foremost was Merfy Rule's joke about the guy at the Super Bowl
with an empty seat beside him. That was good. There were other things also
that I was glad I did not miss out on. Thank you very much, Robert W. Bonjour"

The weather is supposed to turn very cold this week with temperatures from
single digits to about 20 degrees through next weekend. Then we are supposed
to get a little warming spell by Tuesday and be above freezing! It's
WISCONSIN!

I just received a note from our DASFI (Dodgeville Area Scholarship Foundation)
treasurer saying that just over 1/2 of the $30,500 in scholarships that
were given out last year have been redeemed. Each year pretty much all of
the higher levels in scholarships have been redeemed by the July 1st deadline,
but some of the lower level ($500) do not get turned in. I can't figure out
why any student faced with loans can turn down FREE money. We urge all
the scholarship recipients (whether DASFI or not) to turn in their grades so
they can get that FREE money!

Buildings have been filling up with businesses downtown - that is good!
We now have two title companies, an archery range/store and a financial advisor
plus a relocation of an attorney. All of this will bring traffic to the downtown.
Now if we can only get a retail store or two things would be looking
up more!

As of Wednesday, it is now the Lenten season. That means that I won't be
able to have any desserts, candy (sweets) or soda pop for the next six weeks.
Also, my special espresso drink - Mint to be in the Chronicle - will be made
with Sugar Free Mint! It's amazing how I lose weight during that time. People
may not recognize me after the next six weeks. Many don't now - I think
they actually do, but won't admit it!

We had what could be a record of more than 40 people at our DHS Class
of '64 luncheon at the Red Room last Friday. There certainly are a lot more
graduates and friends of DHS showing up than just the class of 1964. It's
great to see everybody even though I always greet them with "I don't know
why I'm here - I don't like any of you!"

Don't forget to VOTE for the judge candidates in next Tuesday's election!
There are four really good candidates running and must be narrowed down
to just two. It's gonna be a tough choice, but rules are rules. See their photo
above - from left: Tim Angel, Peg Koehler, Tim McKinley and Larry Nelson.
