Along the Ad Routes

By Mike Reilly-mreilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com

We were remembered by several individuals for Christmas treats last week
and it was great to receive a boys basketball team photo and schedule from
Iowa-Grant, along with a box of candy from the Barneveld School District!
We want to wish everyone a Happy New Year, expecially all the coaches who
religiously call in their games/meets when we can't personally be at them!
*****
I had a chance to spend some time Christmas Eve at nephew Ryan and his
family's home. He served prime rib - yum! Reilly Christmas will take place
on New Year's Day at a place to be determined yet. I just know that it won't
be at my house!

Cousin Jeanette and husband Jack arrived here Tuesday for a week or so.
She was hoping to have snow when she arrived. There is some, but not as
much as last week before the warm temperatures arrived over the weekend
and into Monday. Things are supposed to be mild yet this week and into the
New Year's weekend.
*****
The melting snow has caused several vehicle slide offs almost every day.
Things melt and then it freezes again. None that I heard had anyone injured
too badly!

Here's a little baseball trivia: "97 years ago last Monday (December 26) ,
the Boston Red Sox sold Babe Ruth's contract to the New York Yankees for
$100,000!" Who got the best deal?

It's always great seeing people you haven't seen for awhile during the holidays.
Some are ones you see mainly at Christmas time pretty much every
year while others you haven't seen in years. Then you see their kids who
have grown from a toddler into young men and women almost overnight!

I was at Cobblestone Coffee House on Monday. I ran into a family who
had relatives from New York here. They wanted to show off "my favorite"
bakery to them, but they were closed. I can't believe the Crubaughs took off
for a Monday holiday. I didn't know they were government owned!
*****
It was "great" to receive the usual Christmas present in the mail - my taxes!

I was at the "Community Christmas Meal" held at Culver's every year. Several
people stopped in who were looking to eat Culver's food. They stayed
for the community meal of ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, veggies, roll,
beverage, frozen custard and cookies (pretty good feast). They said they were
happy to see some place that was serving. I guess not everyone is with family
on Christmas Day! Above, you see two of the mainstays that makes that meal
for several hundred people (takeouts, delivery and eat in) happen - Marge
and Willie Aurit.
