Valley starts fast, but Dodgers finish

River Valley jumped to a 7-0 lead, but Dodgeville answered by going inside and hitting some threes. Pretty soon it was 18-7 Dodgeville.
With the halftime score 42-21, the Dodgers coasted to a 71-55 win Friday night in SWC girls/boys doubleheader basketball action.
The Dodgers found junior post Bryce Prochaska for 21 of his game-high 25 points in that first half.
Houston Stanek nailed a pair of three pointers with Gerrit Bakker and Isaac Nagel each hitting one to help double up the Blackhawks.
River Valley only had three players score in the first session. Kurt Schaller had 11 of his 24 points with Derek Wedige getting 7 of his 11. Brett Nachreiner put in a trey for the final first half points.
Both halves saw the Dodger bench get playing time in a mix with some starters with a good share of the second half playing time going to the entire bench.
Both teams played everybody with 10 Dodgers and 7 Blackhawks scoring.
Dodger Isaac Nagel was their other double digit scorer with 11.
"This wasn't the way we looked when we practiced for this game," said River Valley coach Luke Thatcher. "We haven't had a lot of practice time due to the football play-offs and it showed. Early on we got shots that Derek knocked down."
"We saw some good things tonight," he added. "A lot of players got time on the court."
"Dodgeville shot the ball extremely well. Prochaska has greatly improved on the inside and he can shoot from the outside too."
Dodgeville coach Matt McGraw said about his team's game, "After a bit of a slow start something clicked with about 12:00 to go in the half and our guys went on a 18-0 run. Keys to that run were getting steals and defections on defense, finishing at the rim, hitting open shots and making the extra pass to get a great shot vs only a good shot."
He added, "Bryce had 21 in the first half and was a difference maker in this game both with scoring and on the boards. He had a double double by halftime.
"Houston had a couple big 3's in the first half to really spark us.
"Gerrit and Nate (James) both played well and had 8 and 6 respectively.
"Josh (Shepler) did a nice job on Wedige. He is a good 3 point shooter and to hold him to only 1 was a very good defensive night.
"This was a great team win. All 16 guys contributed in a positive way. Now we move on and prepare for a very good Darlington team and a much improved Richland Center team."
