Pointers out-shoot Dodgers in boys opener

It was a game of shoot and run - or was it a game of run and shoot?
No matter, Mineral Point's boys basketball team came away with a win Tuesday night in a non-conference match-up with Dodgeville.
The score was a meager 92-86.
Freshman Isaac Lindsey and junior Chance Wendhausen lit it up most of the night for the Pointers.
Lindsey finished with a game-high 35 points that included seven three pointers - many from near NBA range.
Wendhausen finished with 29 points, including 10 two-pointers, mostly on drives to the bucket.
Both players helped the Pointers overcome a 38-35 halftime deficit by scoring 21 points apiece in the second half.
"Dodgeville is a good team with a lo of weapons," said Pointer coach Dan Burreson. "To beat a team of their calibre is a plus. We didn't have some answers for them early on, but we weathered the storm."
"We played one possession at a time. Our guard play - Isaac and Chance - brought us back. We had great contributions from guys off he bench," he added.
"This was a good win against a quality opponent, but we have things to work on because we start conference play Thursday at Southwestern."
The Dodgers were led in scoring by post player Bryce Prochaska with 24 points. Point guard Isaac Nagel hit a trio of three pointers and finished with 22.
Two other Dodgers hit in double figures as Josh Shepler scored all of his 12 in the second half and Nate James finished with 10.
"Mineral Point controlled it early, but we battled back behind Bryce's post play. The guys did a good job finding him to score," said Dodger coach Matt McGraw. "They switched to a 1-3-1 and it took us a while to respond and some of our looks didn't fall. When we did hit some shots, Mineral Point always responded back."
"It's not very often that we can score 86 points and lose. The Lindsey kid was on fire," he added.
McGraw pointed out that when Nagel fouled out with several minutes left in the contest that he had some kids step up and kept it close.
The Dodgers play at 8:00 Friday night at River Valley with the girls playing at 6:30.
