The Corner Drug Store, in downtown Dodgeville, has been offering a 25
cent phosphate when you purchase something from the pharmacy as a "Summer
Special." I had my first cherry phosphate since probably my high school
days the other day. It brought back memories and tasted pretty darn good at
the same time! You should check out their "Old Fashioned" soda fountain.
They run different specials and you'll be surprised by how good everything
is - just like the "old" days I remember!

The rain Friday night and up until nearly noon Saturday put a damper on
the 25th anniversary celebration of the Iowa County Antique Collectors
Power Show at the Iowa County Fairgrounds in Mineral Point. Pretty much
all the outside events couldn't take place due to the wetness and the fact that
many of them would tear up the "Midway" area with the Iowa County Fair
this next weekend. Sunday, however, was a different story as everything was
able to go as scheduled!

Saturday I was at the Highland volleyball tournament and during a break
in the action, around noon, I made a stop at Highland's NEWEST business -
Dixie Rose Floral. Kassy Koch, 19, was probably in diapers when I sold advertising
to her mother,(Jody) at her floral shop in Cobb. I remember several
youngsters in a playpen inside the shop! Also, her grandmother, Joanne (Mellum)
Putz, was a high school classmate of mine! Does all that mean that I
have been at this way too long?!

There are tons of stories and memories that come out of events like the Little
League World Series (baseball). The other day on my computer came
across a story about a mother of a youngster who was diagnosed with cancer
in December. While she was being interviewed on television, her son hit a
Home Run! Now, it couldn't get any better than that!

Speaking of Highland - there is another "kinda" new business there. My
"sometimes" good friend Lauri Pustina took a hairstylist job in Verona and
recently sold her business to Teri Esser-Spink. During the interim, it was
being run by Linda Rose, who had worked with Lauri for eons! The new hair
care place is now named MVP Sports Cuts. Teri also has a place in Platteville
too.

I ran into Lauri Pustina at the Highland volleyball tournament Saturday and
told her that "It sure was peaceful going into her old shop these days". I don't
know why she would hit me!

Starting this Thursday is the 160th Iowa County Fair. The old slogan - "It's
Your Fair, Be There" holds true. It can't run without YOUR support. Unlike
a lot of the county fairs, it mainly runs on what is taken in each year. It has
it's own fair board overseeing everything with a lot of donated time by those
helping out! Sunday is FREE Admission Day with a lot going on, including
the honoring of ALL VETERANS with a 4:30 p.m. ceremony in front of the
grandstand!
