Knights end season at Wiota

A almost magical play-off run by the Dodgeville Knights ended one game short of the Home Talent League's championship series at Wiota Sunday.
The top seeded Indians outlasted the fifth seeded Knights 4-1 in a game that saw a great pitching match-up with one team falling a little short.
The Knights held a 9-6 edge in hits but left eight runners on base and could not take advantage of a bases loaded one out situation in the sixth. The inning ended on a double play.
The Knights picked up their lone run early when Danny Sullivan came through with a two out single in the first and courtesy runner Kristian Haag scored on a long double by Jordan Larson.
The Indians tied it in the fifth on an rbi single by Mitch Marty that plated pinch runner Ben Muhlstein who ran after Jay Haldiman singled.
Merrill Brunson singled to open the sixth but was gunned down at the plate by Jordan Olson who fielded a ground ball in right and fired it home. It was the second straight game Olson got a runner at the plate.
But singles by Jeff Solberg and Rooney Janecke got runners on and they ended up on second and third on the play at the plate.
Matt Keister delivered the knockout blow with a two run double to left that just eluded the diving Austin Larson. Keister then scored on an error on a delayed steal.
The rest of the game was zeros for both teams.
Danny Sullivan worked six frames and fanned four, walked four and hit one while giving up three earned runs.
Bill Hellmann finished with two scoreless innings. He fanned one and walked one.
Ben Conway went nine innings and got the win for the Indians.
Danny Sullivan, Jordan Larson, Jay Linder and Ian Streeter all were 2x4 for the Knights. Mark Ludwig got the ninth hit.
The Knights were 10-8 in Sunday play and 6-4 in Night League for a combined HTL record of 16-12. Their highlight was beating defending league champion Verona twice and ended the Cavaliers' season in the Western Section semi-finals.
