Dodgers get several contributions in win

Dodgeville football coach and the players on the 2016 squad were hoping their opener at Orfordville Parkview would end up a good start.
That was what happened as the Dodgers scored early and often to turn back the Vikings 35-16 in the non-conference opener for both squads.
Under the direction of quarterback Houston Stanek the Dodgers scored twice in the first quarter, once in the second and twice more in the third. Stanek threw for 166 yards on 13 attempts, 112 of them to Josh Shepler who took one in for a touchdown.
He handed off to junior Zack Weber eight times who carried for 37 yards and one score.
Joey Recob returned a kick-off 85 yards to score.
Lance Johnsrud took advantage of a fumble forced by Johnny Geisking, scooped it up and scored.
It was the good start the team was looking for.
"We've focused on some different things this season and we are seeing the kids putting the pieces together," Bohnsack said. "Our offensive line centered by senior Jake Konop is coming together and learning how to make on-the-field adjustments."
Bohnsack is pleased with the play of quarterback Houston Stanek, running backs Zack Weber, Joey Recob and Noah Durst along with the wide receivers Josh Shepler and Jack Hellmann.
"Defensively we were able to keep a philosophy of bend, don't break, and the defense even provided a cushion for our offense with the caused fumble that was returned for a score."
On special teams Michael Mikrut averaged 25 yards per punt return and Joey Recob also had some key bursts.
This week the Dodgers face one of SWAL's best when they travel seven miles to Mineral Point. Both teams won their non-conference openers.
