Thursday night. Well it is on Thursday night, but it's tonight (August 18).
Quite often we work a week ahead with things, and I guess that's how I
messed it up - but that's no excuse! It's inside Ley Pavilion at Harris Park
starting at 4:30 p.m. Besides the famous chicken and the fixins, you get to
socialize with a lot of people from around the area - plus you can listen to
music by the "Dan Roble German Band"! Check out last year's Kiwanis
Chicken BBQ photo above.

I really hated to give up going to the Cobb Corn Roast parade Sunday as I
really wanted to see Greg Gard and his family as he is the UW Badgers men's
basketball coach was the parade Grand Marshal. I'm sure it was a great parade
with a lot of people lining the streets. And it was a beautiful day - not
too warm, but not cold!

The reason I wasn't at Cobb was the fact the Dodgeville Knights Home
Talent Baseball Team was playing their 2nd round playoff game at Verona -
a team we beat 7-0 and lost to 4-0 in two previous meeting this summer. Well,
the game was all it was billed up to be as "the good guys" (Dodgeville) won
1-0. Danny Sullivan pitched a tremendous game. He seemed to be getting a
little tired in the ninth inning, but first baseman Jay Lindner made a great
stab of a line drive headed down the right field line and that seemed to rejuvenate
Danny as he struck out the next two batters to end it! Earlier in the
game, right fielder Jordan Olson took a line drive single on one hop and threw
a runner out who was trying to score from second base - that was another
huge play. Others made great plays including Trent Sullivan, at shortstop,
Jordan Larson at third and Austin Larson in left. Also, Ian Streeter caught
and called a great game. Champions!

I had a little "Road rage type" driving experience coming out of Verona
after the ball game. I was in the "right lane ends" lane heading onto US 18-
151 and there was a vehicle right beside me, so I speeded up to get in front
of it. The driver must've had the same idea as they speeded up and I couldn't
get past. I'm not a "road rage" type of guy, so I dropped back to let them stay
ahead entering the 4-lane area. But I know some people who would not have
let something like that go!

Following the Kiwanis Chicken BBQ that is Thursday evening will be
"Dodgeville Days" on Friday and Saturday with sales throughout the city -
some will be out on the sidewalk. Then, on Sunday, will be the last of the
summer Dodgeville Lions Club Antique Show and Flea Market. It runs from
8:30-3:30 p.m. at Harris Park. The Lioness will be there selling their "famous"
in-demand pies too. All proceeds go to support community projects
and scholarships by the two clubs!

Football scrimmages were held Friday night throughout the area. The "real
thing" begins this Friday night so it will probably be very hot! I hope all the
teams have plenty of fluids on hand.
