A good place to be

By J. Patrick Reilly-preilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com

The WNA (Wisconsin Newspaper Association) Board of Directors meeting
I attended last Thursday in Eagle River was a strategic planning session that
hopefully will benefit newspapers of all sizes in Wisconsin.
One of the biggest problems all newspapers are experiencing at the present
time is finding employees. Many students enrolled in communications
courses are looking for the big dollars and the bright lights. In most instances
this is not happening.
Many newspaper board members realize the pay in this business is not the
greatest and if you are looking to get rich this is not the industry for you.
But the rewards of being in this business come from making a difference.
Newspapers are still a great way to get the news and receive it wrapped in
the all important truth.
The newspaper industry has its work cut out for them when it comes to
finding qualified employees. But if you can handle long hours and work at
times others have off it is a good place to be. Because by doing the work
and caring you are making the all important difference.
And that is a good feeling all the time.
