Dodgers win pair

Dodger Marcella Dougherty scored the game's only run Friday in a 1-0 softball win at Ithaca.
Both teams had just three hits.
The way Dodger coach Gene Van Dyke described he game was. "This was a fastpitch game that was played the way it ought to be played. Both pitchers dominated and the game was finally won on defensive mistakes. Ithaca made the mistakes and we didn't and won the game. Both the infield and the outfield played really well. Lindsey Murphy really threw a great game yielding only 3 hits, walking none and striking out 11. Marcella Dougherty had a infield single in the seventh. Pinch hitter Breanna Freeman hit a ball that their infield threw away allowing Marcella to advance to third. She then scored the game's lone and winning run on a wild pitch. Someone had to win and someone had to lose and we got the win."
Collecting the safeties for the Dodgers were Allison Dougherty, Nicole Jones and Marcella Dougherty.
Ithaca hurler Ayssa Clary fanned 13 and walked one in allowing just the three hits and the one run.
Ithaca hits came from Clary, Megan Burnley and Gracie Adsit.
The Lady Bulldogs had two runners reach second base, but boh times it was with two out and Murphy got the next batter out.
Thursday the Dodgers took a 6-5 win at Lancaster in SWC action.
Murphy got the win striking out one with no walks and giving up five runs on seven hits.
The Dodgers scored once in the first, twice in the third and won it with three in the fifth.
Courtney Miess had three hits with Allison Dougherty, Ellie Argall and Nicole jones each collecting two. Maci Swiggum, Paige Lee and Jordyn Alfred each had one. Jones and Lee had doubles and Alfred a three bagger.
"This was quite an exciting game to play in and to watch," said Van Dyck. "We got the lead in the first inning but then lost it in the second inning. In the fifth inning we scored 3 to take a 2 run lead. But in the bottom of the seventh we made a critical error that led to a run and with two out they had the tying run on third. They hit a soft liner to right that Alicia Benson made a real nice play on to win the game. We had 12 hits in the game and probably should have won it more easily but Lindsey struggled with her control a little and Lancaster stayed in the game. Overall we played pretty well defensively with our infield looking pretty tough. We had seven batters get hits 4 of them getting extra base hits along with two double and a triple."
