Dodgers hang 4-2 loss on Spartans


A three run fifth by the Dodgeville baseball team held up and the Dodgers went on to a 4-2 win over McFarland in a non-conference game Friday.
Three straight hits with two outs accounted for the three runs. Caleb Chappell walked and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Trent Jones. After another out Jordan Olson broke a 1-1 tie with a single to center. Jordan Larson's single sent in Olson and Zack Weber plated Larson with a single to right.
Jack Hellmann then singled to chase the McFarland pitcher.
The Dodgers scored a run in the third when Cole Sullivan walked, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a double by Larson.
McFarland tied it in the fifth when Nick Herbst got his third hit of the game, advanced on a ground out and scored on a single by Jake Voelker.
After the Dodgers took a 4-1 lead the Spartans made some noise in the seventh. The first batter was hit by a pitch, got to third on an error and scored on a ground out.
The main sticks for the Trojans were Herbst and Voelker who were 3x4 and 2x4.
Brady Wedvick took the loss with 4 2/3 innings of work. He struck out three, walked two and gave up all six Dodgeville hits.
Voelker worked the final 1 1/3 and finished untouched. He walked one.
Larson and Hellmann were both 2x3 for the Dodgers and Olson knocked in two runs. Weber also got a hit and an rbi for Dodgeville.
Sullivan went five innings and earned the win. He struck out seven, walked one and gave up six hits along with an earned run.
Larson went the final two. He struck out three and gave up an unearned run.
