Panthers hand Riverdale SWAL loss

Iowa-Grant's softball team was able to put eight runs on the board against Riverdale's Amanda Meister and turn back the Chieftains 8-6 in a SWAL game Thursday.
Meister, one of the top pitchers in the league, was touched for eight hits including two home runs. She struck out six and walked three.
Maranda McCarthy earned the win with a complete game effort. She spaced 11 hits, struck out four and walked one.
Emma Liddicoat smacked a two run home run in the second for a 2-0 lead. Kristin Bingham had tripled before Liddicoat's blast.
After Riverdale scored a run in the top of the third McCarthy pounded a two run shot in the bottom half for a 4-1 lead.
Hannah Stevens singled to open the fifth and scored on a pair of errors. Errors gave the Panthers another run for a 6-2 lead.
Lauren Winkler opened the sixth with a walk, stole second and got to third on a wild pitch. Freshman Lexi Busse doubled to send her home and after stealing third, scored on an infield error.
Riverdale scored four in the top of the seventh to close the gap but McCarthy settled down to get through the frame.
Four players had multiple hit games for Riverdale. Macy Curtis was 2x2, Macy Koch 2x3 with Meister and Shay Louis 2x4. Meister had a pair of rbis and Louis stroked a double.
"It was another cold day but we got the game completed," said coach Deanna Fulton. "We hit the ball pretty well off a good pitcher and we played defense well enough to win."
