Pittz, Sanchez turn in double digit scoring in win


A strong running game highlighted by three touchdowns by quarterback Scott Pittz and two by Lucas Sanchez helped Mineral Point salute their seniors with a 48-12 win over Riverdale in a SWAL game Friday.
Sanchez scored first to get the Pointers moving with a 10 yard score and Curtis Cox kicked the first of six conversions.
After Riverdale quarterback Trevor Troxel scored, Pittz got the Pointers a 14-6 end of the first quarter lead with a four yard run.
A Pittz sneak covering a yard in the second quarter sent the Pointers into intermission ahead 20-6.
The Pointers blew the game open with 21 points in the third quarter. Pittz and Sanchez scored on runs of 27 and 11 yards with Logan Bidlingmeier adding the third score on a run.
Brandon Forseth's 60 yard return on an intercepted pass finished scoring for the Pointers in the fourth frame.
Sanchez traveled for 222 yards on 19 carries on his way to two scores. Pittz added 81 yards on 15 carries while scoring three times.
Sanchez caught Pittz's lone pass completion with a 30 yard grab. Pittz was one for five passing.
The Pointers outgained the Chieftains 392 to 223.
The Pointers travel to Iowa-Grant to take on the undefeated Panthers this Friday.
