A few weeks back we received a note from Ethel Biba, who was once a
resident in Dodgeville. She wrote: "I appreciate getting my notice of annual
renewal for my Chronicle. Having appreciated and enjoyed the Dodgeville
Chronicle for the five years I lived in Dodgeville, I will now switch to the
Waunakee Tribune here in Waunakee and hope to enjoy this newspaper as
much. Thank you for delivering a great newspaper."

While we hate to lose subscribers, we wish her well and a thanks for the
nice note!

It was a busy weekend with both Dodgeville and Highland holding their
respective homecoming events plus Iowa-Grant hosting a volleyball tournament
and the Dodgeville Alumni Reunion celebration in the downtown area.
There were also several DHS graduating classes holding reunions over the
weekend with one being a 70th!

There was quite the Dodgeville Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony
held at the Dodger Bowl following Friday night's football game. Jeff Bradley
and the committee put on a very good event. Several of the inductees spoke
highly of it and the way it is run!

The Dodgeville Area Scholarship Foundation (DASFI) annual golf outing
was a great success Sunday. The class of '65 had 13 golfers involved - they
had their 50 year reunion the night before - and the weather really cooperated
for the first time in three years. Also, Lori McKinlay, granddaughter of the
late Kathryn McGraw, made four of her grandmother's "famous" apple pies.
It is a family affair as Lori's uncle Pat grows the apples from trees Kathryn
had him plant years ago and Lori's mother Margaret peeled all the apples for
the freshly baked pies very early in the morning. Also, Kathryn's daughters
Diane and Millie help bring and serve the pies. The four pies sold for nearly
$2000 with one going to the class of '65 for $1500. There was a little bidding
war between that class and Ed Brokish, but in the end the class won out! Two
of the pies were served to the group of "dessert hungry" people. After expenses,
all the funds raised at the event go to scholarships for graduates. It's
a lot of fun that day and also a lot of work, but with the kids in mind it really
is worth it!

Check out the photo above for Lori holding a pie with a specially decorated
holder with auctioneer Bob McNeill (left) and one of his grandsons - Brian
Bradley - as bid spotter!

This Saturday is the Barneveld School District's annual "Fair Day". It's
like a homecoming event but without a high school football game. They have
a lot of things on exhibit during the day plus an "always great" parade!

If you haven't noticed the new "Welcome to Dodgeville" sign by the intersection
of Highway 23 and Brennan Road to the south of Dodgeville, well
there is one there now. That would be thanks to the Dodgeville Lions Club
(who felt there should be one located on that side of town) and the landscaping
of Zach Stoughton as an Eagle Scout project. When you're coming into
town from that direction you can't miss it!
