Dodgers fourth at DeForest tourney

Dodgeville's volleyball team had some trouble with the teams from the north and lost a pair of SWC matches to Richland Center and River Valley.
The Lady Hornets picked up three wins Tuesday and turned back the Dodgers 25-19, 25-23 and 25-22.
"Three very close games," Dodgeville coach Shelby Rideout said Tuesday about the loss to Richland Center. "We missed 11 serves and had some other little things go against us. We play close but can't seem to finish."
"I don't know if it is nerves or if we are afraid we will make a mistake," Rideout said. "We have to find ways to get past that."
Rideout said the Hornets hit the ball hard and gave the Dodgers some problems with that.
"But we were right there with them," she said. "We ended up beating ourselves and we have to fix that."

"We got off to a slow start in the first game that we just couldn't recover from but the girls dug in and really battled with Valley in the last two games," Rideout said. "The critical difference between winning and losing for us was errors, plain and simple. Our serving was pretty strong and our passing was fairly consistent, but our play at the net was a big struggle. It's difficult to win a game when you rack up that many hitting errors. However, the girls fought through to the end, and I admire their perseverance."
Saturday the Dodgers finished second in pool play at DeForest then played in the Gold Bracket.
They finished the day 5-5. and were fourth place overall.

"We did very well in pool play on Saturday," Rideout said. "We were serving tough and our front row was very strong. We were short a starting setter for the day, as Kara Crowley was out with an injury, so we ran a 5-1 for the first time. The girls only had one day to practice this new line-up, and they did a great job adjusting and working together."
"We had new faces on the court, and everyone really seemed to click well in pool play," Rideout added. We took DeForest to three very tight games, and I was very impressed with how we battled with them. In the afternoon Gold Bracket, we seemed to lose steam. We made way too many mistakes to compete with teams like River Valley and DeForest. "
"As a team, we are embracing the success of the morning and learning every lesson we can from the tough afternoon we had," Rideout said. "We're excited to get back into conference play this week."
The Dodgers are at Prairie du Chien Tuesday.
