D-P cross country competes at RV


Dodgeville-Mineral Point's girls cross cross country team beat all but two D2 teams as they took seventh in the Large Schools Division Saturday at the River Valley Invitational.
There were 19 teams and 126 runners competing.
Sun Prairie won with 48 points and also had the top two runners.
Middleton was second at 65 with the rest of the field being: Freedom 114, Holmen 156, McFarland 159, Stoughton 184, Dodge-Point 232, Mauston 249, Sauk Prairie 257, Reedsburg 307, Wisconsin Dells 309, Madison La Follette 345, Mount Horeb 394, Portage 442, River Valley 544, Edgerton 558.
Finishes for Dodge-Point were: Brittany Rhyner 13th 20:27, Cassie McGraw 45th 22:02, Alexis Bauer 48th 22:09, Drew Sandstrom 51st 22:12, Macken-zie Hall 64th 22:40, Josie Jabs 66th 22:46, Kennedy Stumpf 75th 23:13.
Dodge-Point coach Denny McGraw talked aabout the varsity, "The Varsity Girls finished 7th out of 19 teams. Our girls gave a good effort. We are still learning how fast to start out and have enough left to finish strong. Brittany Rhyner was the top Dodgeville runner, finishing 13th. She ran with strength and determination the entire race. Cassie McGraw ran a smart race with a strong finish and placed 46th. Alexis Bauer is running very well and had a great race. Drew Sandstrom had a very good race and is starting to come on. Mackenzie Hall was not feeling the best and did as well as she could. Josie Jabs and Kennedy Stumpf rounded out the varsity runners."
Sun Prairie senior McKensey Van Wie won in 18:42 with teammate Trista Pringle next in 18:43.
Dodge-Point's JV took 4th with 149 points behind winner Middleton 27, Sun Prairie 47 and Stoughton 122.
D-P results were: 16 Claire Baldus 22:35, 23 Avery Peterson 23:21, 34 Abby Thompson 23:50, 35 Haley May 23:51, 41 Sydney Judd 24:05, 43 Hannah Tre-melling 24:17, 49 Alyssa Sullivan 24:29, 93 Macy Ahrens 24:57, 147 Anacapri Peterson 26:10, 242 Lara Bautzer 29:20, 249 Madelyn Hall 29:22.
McGraw said, "The JV girls had another strong showing at the Blackhawk Invitational on Saturday. They placed 4th among 19 teams, only being bested by 3 large Division 1 schools. Claire Baldus led the Dodgeville JV."
Albany won the Small Schools Division with 84 points nosing out Lancaster at 88. Pecaton-ica/Argyle 11th with 292.
Pec/Argyle finishes were: 32 Josie Penniston 22:40, 40 Samantha Erickson 23:57, 56 Hannah James 23:59, 61 Abby Loomis 24:05, 87 Adriana Johnson 27:02.
Individually, Iowa-Grant's An-gela Melby took 38th in 22:55 and Caitlyn Fowell was 84th in 25:45.
Dodgeville Middle School had these runners: Korra Wasley, Lily Wood, Breanna Pearson, Livia Winch, Mariya Schmitz, Madyson Driscoll, Courtney Clauer, Macie James and Brittany McGauley.
Dodge-Point took 10th in the 20-team Large Schools boys race.
Madison La Follette won at 41 with Sun Prairie edging Middleton 88-89 for second.

D-P fiishes were; 20 Juan Navarro 17:08, 53 Tanner Cullen 18:15, 62 Isaac Grunow 18:26, 67 Adam Phillips 18:30, 71 Jordan May 18:36, 75 Dylan McGraw 18:50, 102 John Phelan 19:36.
"The Varsity Boys placed 10th out of 19 teams in the large school division," McGraw said. "Juan Navarro was the top Dodgeville boys' runner placing 20th almost breaking 17 with a 17:08. He is showing great progress with each race. The other Dodgeville runners ran in a nice pack for a large portion of the race. Junior Tanner Cullen in 18:13, Sophomore Issac Grunow in 18:26, Freshmen Adam Phillips in 18:30, Sophomore Jordan May in 18:36 and Dylan McGraw in 18:50, they showed nice improvement from last week, but we need to see them move up as a pack. John Phelan rounded out the varsity squad with a solid performance."
La Follette's Finn Gessner won in 15:32 with Middle-ton's Gus New-comb next in 15:56.
Middleton won the JV race with 45 points to La Follette's 53. Dodge-Point took 11th.
Results for D-P were: 43 Noah Blalock 19:27, 55 Ty Driscoll 19:55, 59 Stewart Thompson 20:21, 67 Hunter Blalock 20:49, 77 John Davis 21:22, 84 Conner Trocke 21:30, 92 David Nagel 22:04, 202 Sean Wahlin 22:52, 218 Grant Lawton 23:17.
McGraw said, "The JV Boys had a very respectable 11th place finish, among 19 teams. There were 300 runners jammed into the starting lanes. We are pleased that so many boys finished under or close to 20 minutes, with several having personal records. Noah Blalock led the JV team."
In the Small Schools Division Darlington topped Boscobel 38-69. Iowa-Grant was 11th with 266 points andPec/Argyle was 18th with 476.
I-G results were: 23 William McLeer 18:38, 25 Ben Connolly 18:41, 55 Paul Connolly 19:59, 57 Easton Dobson 20:00, 106 Jacob Soman 24:40.
"Today was the River Valley Invite in Spring Green, said I-G coach Jake Winkler. "This was an excellent meet for IG Cross Country. We had six out of the nine runners achieve personal bests. The weather was absolutely perfect for cross country, and the competition was incredible.
"In the girl's race, both Angela and Caitlyn had great races. Angela ran her most aggressive race of the year. Caitlyn ran a great race for us as well, you could tell that she was feeling great.
"On the boy's team we had William McLeer lead the way with a 23rd place finish. Ben Connolly was right behind him at 25th place. Paul Connolly and Easton Dobson raced well to come in under 20:00 for the first time. It was a breakthrough day for both of those duos. It's fun to watch Will and Ben, and Paul and Easton race each other. They really help bring out the best in the other. Jacob did a great job of racing through some pain to round out our top 5. We ran without Mason Moon today, who had an ankle injury at our meet on Thursday. In the JV race we had Ben Amend and Creedyn Fox racing. Ben ran a season best 27:47."
In conclusin Winkler said, "Overall, I'm excited at where we are at this point in the season. I feel like we are on pace to accomplish our team goals, and we have several individuals who are running their best times. We're going to keep working hard in practice and I believe that come October we will see some really great results."
Pec/Argyle results were: 79 Tristan Waage 21:16, 93 Dakota Hoffman 22:20, 99 Cade Bush 23:22, 100 Caleb Carr 2315, 105 Marcus Timm 24:39.
In JV finishes, Pec/Argyle's Hunter Carr was 307th in 30:29. Iowa-Grant's Ben Amend took 299th in 27:47 and Creedyn Fox was 313th in 33:48.
Tuesday, Dodge-Point topped Platteville, River Valley and Richland Center 27-37-79-102 in girls SWC action.
Brittany Rhyner won in 21:58 over D-P teammate Mackenzie Hall's 21:58.
Other D-P varsity finishes were: Cassie McGraw 6th 23;23, Drew Sandstrom 8th 23:42, Josie Jabs 10th 23:50, Alexis Bauer 11th 23:53, Kennedy Stumpf 13th 23:58.
Platteville won the three-team boys race with 29 points to Dodge-Point's 41 and River Valley's 57.
Hillmen Vince Moret topped River Valley's Dustin Hatfield 17:03 to 17:06 for the top spot.
Dodge-Point varsity results were: Juan Navarro 4th 17:21, Tanner Cullen 7th 19:15, Isaac Grunow 9th 19:15, Jordan May 10th 19:26, Adam Phillips 11th 19:32, Dylan McGraw 13th 19:55, John Phelan 15th 20:07.
