Along the Ad Routes

I had a chance to stay up really late (for me) Saturday night into Sunday as
I was in Montfort waiting for the fire trucks and ambulance to escort Donnie
Raimer back into town as he returned from the "Badger Honor Flight". That
is where veterans fly to Washington DC to view all the memorials there that
were built in their honor and the honor of all deceased veterans. There were
a bunch of people with American flags at the fire station to greet him when
he got out of the car. Admittedly he was tired, but got a second wind when
he saw all the people and the escort he received. He said it was a great experience,
but a long day!

I also had a chance to go to the Jonesdale Field Days over the weekend.
That's an event where the "tiny" berg of Jonesdale has a lot of people come
together (from near and far) to help celebrate at the ball field that the late Art
James kept alive with 4-H softball games for many years. The local band
"Black Water Gin" played on Friday night and there were slow pitch softball
games Saturday (see photo above) and Sunday - run by Art's daughter Janet
- plus a lot of trap shooting by members of the Jonesdale Sportsmans Club,
a great food stand a lot more family fun things going on!

Friday and Friday night there was a lot going on during Iowa-Grant's
Homecoming celebration, including the dedication of the football field in
honor of former longtime coach Garry Crull. They also won their homecoming
football game, had a parade and a dance besides some halftime ceremonies.
It was a good weekend to be a PANTHER!

This weekend is Dodgeville's homecoming weekend. It kicks off Thursday
evening with a parade at 5:30 and a bonfire at 8:00. Friday night is the game
against River Valley with DHS Athletic Hall of Fame inductions after the
game at the Dodger Bowl. There are always some special people inducted
(check out the sports pages for information on them). Saturday is the dance
starting at 8:00 p.m. It is also the 50 year class reunion of the 1965 graduates.
Sunday is the DASFI (scholarship foundation) golf outing at Dodge Point.
Even if you don't golf, drop by and talk with the graduates who come out
and support the event. There is usually close to a full house (30-36 teams of
four) who play. It's a great time to catch up on "old times" with "old timers"!
You can have a bite to eat, enjoy a drink or two and just talk!

Speaking of homecomings. Saturday is Highland's homecoming. Parade
at 11 a.m. and game at 2 p.m. - dance that night! They play a tough Cassville
team.

After a not so good start to the season last week the UW Badgers football
team put things together Saturday in a 58-0 win over a team that wasn't Alabama
(Miami of Ohio), but it should give them a lot of confidence down
the road. Then the Packers were maybe a little shaky in their win over the
Bears, but it is a win and in their own division where they have been so good
the past few years. And it sure was good to have James Jones back with the
Pack!
