show and the life of many student athletes, their family, friends
and fans is a way of life in every state in America.
There are many reasons to play football but no doubt the list
is topped by an all out love for the game. Why else would
someone left weights all summer in a hot, sweaty weightroom,
start practice in 80 degree or more weather and finish the season
with the possibility of snow on the ground...and STILL LOVE
IT.
Our hope is that all the players taking the field for practice and
games have injury free seasons, play the game the right way and
learn the life lessons the sport can teach.
That brings us to the incident that is receiving heavy presence
on the internet that happened at John Jay High School in Texas.
Yes, football may be more than life in Texas but what happened
last weekend is inexcusable.
If you haven't seen it two players on the John Jay team took
out a referee, one on a blindside hit and another piling on top of
him. It was intentional.
Tuesday an assistant coach is being blamed for suggesting the
ref should pay for missing calls. Apparently the two players
took that to heart.
There is only one way to play football and that is to play it the
right way. There is enough things that can happen in a game of
crushing bodies that can lead to injury without players taking it
on themselves to hurt someone.
Watching high school football in this area is a great pasttime
because the coaches we know teach the game the right way.
When something takes place like it did in Texas it is easy to
point fingers and criticize the sport but that is not what should
happen.
