One score decides it at Belmont

Belmont junior quarterback Jon Bahr found some running room on a rain soaked field Friday and his 35 yard scamper was the only score of the game.
That was not what a scrappy Highland team wanted to see as the Braves went on to defeat the Cardinals by a 6-0 score in the Six Rivers match-up.
The Cardinals ran all over the field except into the end zone. They out rushed the Braves 208-93 and had a 252-164 edge in total yards.
But they were also penalized 108 yards on 10 flags and lost one of their three fumbles.
It was that kind of a game.
Cardinals quarterback John Ross Linscheid led the rushing in the rain storm with 140 yards on 19 carries. Adam Wolfe pounded the turf for 81 yards on 13 tries and freshman Drew Hennessey picked up 23 in two carries.
Linscheid was three for eight passing with the longest to Evan Rusch for a 15 yard gain.
Defensively Russell Greene, Hunter Weist and Michael Biba all had a solo tackle, a tackle for loss and a sack.
Hennessey had a good night punting with one for 50 yards and an average of 44.67.
Bahr led Belmont with 94 yards on 24 attempts. He scored the game winner in the second quarter after completing a pass to freshman wide receiver Collin Austin for 15 yards to the 35.
"We had some scores brought back because of penalties," Highland coach Mike Aide said. "Our team is young and plays very hard. Sometimes things don't go the way we want them to and we will learn from those things and move on."
"Belmont has a very solid team and we matched up pretty well with them," Aide added. "I see good things with our team and hope that we keep playing with intensity the rest of the season."
The Cardinals got into the red zone once and close several other times but came up empty.
"It was a crappy night weather wise," Aide said. "But we had our chances and just couldn't get the job done."
He was pleased with the progress quarterback JR Linscheid is making after sitting out most of last season with an injury.
"He is doing a great job at quarterback this season," Aide said. "JR is our offensive captain and has taken ahold of the leadership role very well. We also changed our offense so we can be more versatile with him as our quarterback."
Defensively Aide said Russell Greene, Michael Biba, Drew Hennessy and Drew Drury played their tails off in the battle.
"They all had their hands full on offense and defense and performed very well," Aide said. "JR not only did a good job operating our offense but had some big tackles as well. Adam Wolfe has been hampered by an injury but has gutted it out and played a great game."
Friday the Cardinals lock horns with Potosi in a home Six Rivers game.
"They are 0-2 right now but played the top two teams in the conference. I expect a great game Friday and I know Potosi will come in ready to play four quarters of football."
