I can't remember when I have gotten as wet as I did Friday night during
the first half of the Dodgeville/Mineral Point football game. I have been to
football games before that it has rained, but not as steady as it did that night.
My camera quit on me just before halftime, so I figured it was time to leave,
I went home and wash/dried the clothes I had on, dried myself out, changed
clothes and went to the office. I figured I didn't want to go back out in the
rain and do all that over again!

The Dodgeville cheerleaders didn't get as wet as me - see above photo!

Sunday I made it to the Iowa County Antique Collectors annual event at
the fairgrounds in Mineral Point. It is always fun watching the threshing the
"old" way and the log splitting. The log they used while I was there came
from a Walnut tree that had been downed by the last tornado! I watched the
blacksmithing that was being done too.

Saturday was my first test at taking photos of volleyball this year. I got a
chance to see three area teams in Dodgeville, Highland and Argyle at the
Highland Jamboree. I arrived and was ready to take photos and suddenly realized
that I didn't have a battery in my camera. I searched my bag and luckily
there was a spare. I remember getting one for just such occasions - pretty
smart, huh!

Thursday is the starting date for the Iowa County Fair. It runs through
Labor Day Monday and always proves to be a lot of fun for the whole family.
There are a lot of people who work extremely hard in preparation for the fair
and I don't just mean the exhibitors. There is a group of fair board members
and a lot of volunteers who make sure everything runs smoothly. If you get
a chance, pop over to the fairgrounds in Mineral Point for at least one of the
five days!

Well, pretty much all the area schools, including colleges and universities,
have begun the new year. You might know that the fall-like (cool) weather
we had last week left us this week and it turned hot and humid!

I don't think I want to be driving past Barneveld. Last week there were
three vehicles that caught fire while driving the highway past there. You
hardly ever hear of one vehicle catching fire, but three in just the matter of
two days is really rare!

It's not too far down the road that the annual Dodgeville Area Scholarship
Foundation golf outing will be held at Dodge Point Golf Course. It is always
the third Sunday of September that it takes place. This year, homecoming is
the Friday night before and the DHS Class of 1965 will hold its 50th class
reunion on Saturday. That class always has three teams or so in the outing. I
hope they take it easy on themselves the night before so they make a good
showing on that Sunday!
