Dodge-Point XC teams both 2nd


Both the Dodgeville-Mineral Point girls and boys cross country teams finished as runners-up in the SWC Conference Meet held at Richland Center Thursday.
Lancaster won the girls meet with 41 points to D-P's 54 with Platteville a very close third at 55. Then came Prairie du Chien 105, River Valley 128 and Richland Center/Ithaca 144.
Talented Lancaster freshman Lydia Murphy won going away in 19:54 with Dodge-Point senior Brittany next in 20:31.
The rest of the Dodge-Point scorers times were: Mackenzie Hall 4th in 21:09, Alexis Bauer 13th in 21:58, Avery Peterson 17th in 22:16 and Josie Jabs 18th in 22:21. Cassie McGraw, back from an injury, was 19th in 22:27 and Kennedy Stumpf took 25th in 22:44.
Dodge-Point coach Denny McGraaw ralked about his varsity girls saying, "Our girls were 2nd at the conference meet with 54 points, behind Lancaster's 41. Brittany Ryhner was 2nd and has been our top runner all year long, it is exciting to see her do so well. Mackenzie Hall was our second runner finishing 4th with another strong performance. Alexis Bauer finished 13th and has been a steady varsity runner this year. Avery Peterson, Josie Jabs and Cassie McGraw, the three freshmen on varsity, are really helping the team with their strong performances. Kennedy Stumpf ran one of her best races of the year and rounded out the varsity for the sectional team. Congratulations to the following girls: First team all-conference: Brittany Rhyner, MacKenzie Hall; Second team all-conference: Alexis Bauer."
In the JV meet, Dodge-Point won with a perfect 15 to Platteville's 55 and Lancaster's 66.
Haley May won in 22:47 over Drew Sandsrom's 22:49. Then came Hannah Tremelling in 22:53, Claire Baldus 23:55 and Sydney Judd in 24:05.
Abby Thompson was 9th in 24:11, Mariah Zoet 10th in 24:39.
The rest of the finishes were: Macy Ahrens 11th in 24:40, Alyssa Sullivan 13th in 24:47, Makayna Lemanski 18th in 25:17, Anacarpri Peterson-Waldvogel 19th in 25:25 and Rachel Wahlin 25th in 27:08.
"The JV girls scored a perfect 15 points, to runner-up Platteville's 55 points. The top 5 runners were Haley May, Drew Sandstrom, Hannah Tremeling, Claire Baldus and Sydney Judd. The other runners were Abby Thompson, Mariah Zoet, Macy Ahrens, Alyssa Sullivan, Makayna Lemanski, Anapacarpi Peterson-Waldvogel, and Rachel Wahlin," McGraw said.
Platteville won the boys portion with 43 points to Dodge-Point's 55 and Lancaster's 74.
Then came Prairie du Chien 103, River Valley 109 and Richland Center/Ithaca 130.
Hillmen Vince Momot won in16:18 with River Valley's Dustin Hatfield runner-up in 16:37.
Juan Navarro led D-P taking 4th in 17:09. Then came Tanner Cullen 7th in 17:29, Jordan May 10th in 17:59, Isaac Grunow 11th in 17:59 and Noah Blalock 18th in 18:23.
Rounding out the varsity were Adam Phillips 20th in 18:29 and Luke Davis 24th in 18:41.
McGraw said, "Our boys were 2nd at the conference meet with 50 points, behind Platteville's 43.
"Juan Navarro continued to be our top boys' runner by finishing fourth. It has been great seeing him improve all year as he gained confidence in his running abilities.
"Tanner Cullen finished 7th in conference. He is a tremendous runner who will continue to be an asset to the team as we move forward. Jordan May finished 10th and is coming on at the right time of the year and has improved a lot this year. Isaac Grunow finished 11th and is a determined young man who has got better and better all season. Freshmen Noah Blalock finished 18th. This was Noah's first year out for cross country and he has been a great addition to the team. Adam Phillips and Luke Davis rounded out the varsity and had nice races placing 20th and 24th. Congratulations to the following boys: First team all-conference: Juan Navarro, Tanner Cullen; Second team all-conference: Jordan May, Isaac Grunow."
Platteville won the JV meet with 24 points to Dodge-Point's 35.
D-P's Ty Driscoll took the top spot in 18:52.
The rest of the Dodge-Point finishes were: John Phelan 5th in 19:27, Stewart Thompson 6th in 19:37, Clay Venden 11th in 20:27, David Nagel 12th in 20:31, Conner Trocke 13th in 20:49, John Davis 14th in 20:52, Grant Lawton 22nd in 21:13, Hunter Blalock 23rd in 21:17, Branden Molldrem 30th in 22:08, Sean Wahlin 36th in 22:43 and Josh Gorgen 40th in 24:42.
"The JV boys were also 2nd. Ty Driscoll, John Phelan, Stewart Thompson, Clay Venden, David Nagel were the top 5 for us. Connor Trocke, John Davis, Grant Lawton, Hunter Blalock, Brandon Molldrem, Sean Wahlin and Josh Gorgen rounded out the boys' team. These guys have worked hard all year and have been pushing the varsity all year to make them better," McGraw said.
