PC is hurting the USA

By Kayla Barnes-kbarnes@thedodgevillechronicle.com

Political correctness (adj. politically correct, commonly abbreviated to PC)
is an ordinarily pejorative term used to criticize language, actions, or policies
seen as being excessively calculated not to offend or disadvantage any particular
group of people in society.
You can't do or say anything these days without someone commenting that
you aren't being politically correct. I remember when I was younger we were
taught to say policeperson instead of policeman. It never really stuck with
me.
Flash forward to now. Everything said has to be politically correct or it
tends to upset everyone. It is a big outrage now in the news because everyone
is getting their feelings hurt. It is also being mocked and made fun of in the
media. For example, the animated television show South Park recently debuted
several episodes poking fun with a new principal coming to the fictional
school who goes way overboard with being politically correct about
every little detail to the extreme. Even though, South Park is a fictional animated
television show, they tend to make a point, even if the rest of their
mockery can be out of line and sometimes down right crude.
Political correctness seems to be taking a toll on comedians also. Jerry Seinfeld
recently stated how he avoids performing stand-up comedy at colleges
because of how politically correct kids are these days. It's sad when we can't
even enjoy a joke without someone tearing it apart just to make sure it
doesn't offend anyone. Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to come off as
a huge jerk who doesn't care about other peoples feelings. I will be politically
correct to a point but I want to voice my own opinion and have the freedom
to speak my mind.
People are afraid to speak their mind for fear of hurting the feelings of others.
Whatever you say, someone is going to disagree with you or have a different
opinion. It is their right. We can't make everyone like us or make
everyone happy. There is always going to be conflict in the world and unfortunately
there is not one solution to fix all the worlds problems. It is okay
to be politically
