Along the Ad Routes

people crossing the street in Dodgeville are a good thing, but maybe they are
being too much taken for granted! The other day a young woman was telling
me that she was going to cross the street in the downtown area and didn't
take a flag. She stepped out from the corner and 12 vehicles passed by before
she saw an opening in order to make it across to the other side. I asked her
why she didn't take a flag (as I knew she knew they were available) and she
said that after the first car or so it was a matter of that she just wanted to see
if anyone would stop for a person that was trying to cross. Because, after all,
it is a state law!

With the weather changing up on us it really makes it tough to know what
to wear from day to day. I have been staying with short sleeve shirts, but
have had a coat on most of the time. This week is supposed to be a little
warmer, but cooling off near the end of it and then warming up again by the
start of next week. And people wonder why they get colds and such!???

The UW Badgers football team really fell apart on offense against Iowa
last week. The one big thing that hurt was the fumble on the one yard line
when it was 2nd and goal. That was a spot they could've taken the lead and
maybe held on as their defense was playing pretty darn good - but it didn't
happen! That puts them in a tough spot to be able to win their division. They
now need to beat everyone including a pretty tough Northwestern team and
then count on two someone else's to beat that Iowa team. But stranger things
have happened!

The Green Bay Packers won Sunday, but it really didn't come easy. The
San Francisco 49'ers played them pretty tough on defense, but their offense
was almost non existent! The Packers pretty much controlled the time of possession
and scored enough to win. The Packers defense was up to the task
too, playing one of their best games of the young season. I'm sure that Green
Bay is pretty happy to be 4-0 at this point in the season!

I went to the Oktoberfest celebration in Highland Sunday. It always is well
attended with not only a lot of "locals", but people who have ties to Highland
and return. The pie eating contest always is a hit for everyone to watch. There
were youngsters and oldsters dressed in German attire and a lot of food to
eat. I was a little disappointed in that there weren't as many pumpkins entered
in the contest, but maybe it isn't a good season for growing big pumpkins -
I wouldn't know as my thumb has never been green!

Check out the photo above for some of the poeple eating the authentic German
meal at Highland!

I ran into Florence Crubaugh (retired Linens and Accents fame) at Bob's
BBQ the other day. She was with son Joe and his daughter and two grand
kids. Boy I don't know how my late buddy was part of that family - they are
all just too good!
