Both Dodge-Point XC place high

The Dodgeville-Mineral Point girls cross country team finished second and the boys fourth in the Large Schools Division at the Dick McKichan Invitational at Platteville Saturday.
"It was a great day at the Platteville Invite and the Dodge-Point runners performed very well. This is the final large invite before conference and it helps us to see how we are running against some of the best," said Dodge-Point coach Denny McGraw. "The fan support was tremendous at this meet and the runners responded with one of the best efforts of the year so far."
The girls totaled 106 points to finish a distant runner-up to winning McFarland's 47.
Belleville junior Noelle Marie won in 19:04 with McFarland junior Brooke Lonigro next in 19:30 and Lancaster freshman Lydia Murphy close behind at 19:31.

Brittany continues to lead the team and had a strong sixth place finish. Mackenzie Hall is one of the solid runners that we can count on each weel. It is great to see Alexis Bauer running so well and Josie Jabs ran one of her better races of the year and looks more comfortable running on varsity. Iowa-Grant coach Jake Winkler said, "On the girl's side, Angela earned a ribbon and was 30th place in the small schools division. There was great competition at this meet! In the girl's race we had 3rd ranked Albany, 7th ranked Lancaster, 8th ranked Darlington. I thought the girls raced well. We need to be a little more aggressive at the start to establish ourselves, but overall, I'm happy with where we are at this point in the season. I am confident that the best is yet to come with our team."

Winkler said about his boys, "On the boy's side we had Ben Connolly lead the way for us. William McLeer battled his way through the course while suffering a pretty nasty cold and ran a respectable 19:36 for us on a tough course. Unfortunately the illness bug hurt our team again, this time with Paul Connolly unable to run for us. It was a lot of fun for me to be back at the Platteville Invite. I saw so many familiar faces, from old teammates of mine to parents. It was a really special time for me. I have a lot of great memories at that course, and it is fun to get to form new ones with Iowa-Grant."
