Black Hawk rolls up yards in win over Highland

Black Hawk rolled up 199 yards on the ground and took advantage of a couple big plays they created to handle Highland 46-6 in Six Rivers football action Friday.
"Black Hawk was very strong in the rushing department and dictated the tempo of the game with their rushing attack," said Highland coach Mike Aide.
Chase Stietz and Jacob Quinn oth scored twice for the Warriors while Austin Meier, Joe Quinn and Brody Milz logged one touchdown each.
Meier scored his on a 45 yard scamper after an interception just before halftime and Joe Quinn took the second half kick-off 98 yards to paydirt for two touchdowns not scored off the run game.
Jacob Quinn traveled the turf for 135 yards on 16 carries and Stietz picked up 77 on 10 tries to lead the rushing for Black Hawk.
The Warriors also struck from the air as sophomore quarterback Michael Flanagan drilled classmate Brody Milz with a 41 yard pass for one of four second quarter touchdowns.
"We had some costly mistakes that gave Black Hawk the ball and we couldn't stop their rushing attack," said Aide.
Highland's touchdown came courtesy of Adam Wolfe who finished off a drive in the fourth quarter by plunging one yard to score. Wolfe had seven carries for 26 yards as Highland had 77 ground yards for the night.
Aide changed his tactics from a week ago when he pulled his starters at halftime in a lopsided loss to Pecatonica/Argyle. This week he went with the starters for most of the game.
"Last week against Pec/Argyle I decided to pull our starters at halftime because of the score," said Aide. "I decided that will not happen the rest of the season. We went into halftime and told them to finish the second half strong and the starters were staying in no matter what. They need to understand that no matter what the score is we need to finish strong."
JR Linscheid was only able to complete one pass against the Warrior defense for 41 yards. He was also the leading Highland rusher with 49 yards on eight carries.
Junior Carson Bryant caught Linscheid's pass and he also had an interception.
All in all it was a tough night for the Cardinals who now must win out to make the post season.
"Evan Rusch played well on both sides of the ball but it was a tough night for us all," Aide said.
Part of the reason is the number of players who are sidelined or limited with injuries.
"We need to get some players healthy and get back to playing Cardinal Football," Aide said. "We have lost some of our technique that we had at the beginning of the season and we need to work on that this week in practice. It is the little things we need to do so we all get better."
The Cardinals entertain Shullsburg Friday.
"They have a very balanced team and we need to be ready to play four quarters of football," Aide said.
