Sweet win for Eagles

Nothing like winning your homecoming week volleyball game and moving into first place in the process.
Barneveld's girls volleyball team got and gave the "sweet treats" Thursday as they turned back Argyle and joined them in first place with a 3-1 win.
The match going to the Eagles jammed up first place with both Barneveld and Argyle sharing the spot with Black Hawk.
Pecatonica lost a nailbiter to Black Hawk 3-2 and slipped to second place.
"There is a long stretch ahead of us," said Eagles coach Melissa Schlimgen, satisfied with how her team approached the test with the Orioles.
"It was a big win," she said. "Homecoming fired us up."
The "sweet treats" come into play when the Eagles play well. Coach Schlimgen gives them cupcakes or some kind of treat.
"That has become or motto for the season,...sweet treats," she said.
Nothing was sweeter than electrifying the crowd with the win.
The Eagles established themselves with a 25-11 win in the first set but the Orioles pulled even at 25-20. But that would be the last time Argyle got the upper hand in the match.
The Eagles put it away with 25-16 and 25-11 wins.
"Our rotation is meshing and we are driving our matches," Schlimgen said. "Now we have to be ready for the stretch ahead that will determine who pulls the title out."
Taylor Owens had 10 kills for the Eagles and Teegan Pickarts had eight.
Kelsee Fargo had 13 assists and five assisted blocks.
Pickarts had the hot serving hand with a dozen aces and she also contributed 10 digs.
