D-P runners compete hard


The Dodgeville-Mineral Point girls cross country team finished 12th out of 30 varsity teams and the boys were 25th out of 37 teams Saturday at the Midwest invitational held at Janesville.
Hartland Arrowhead won the girls varsity run with 85 pints to runner-up Kimberly's 89.
Then came: Middleton 152, Madison West 192, Wisconsin Lutheran 214, Neenah 260, Madison Memorial 270, Oconomowoc 282, Stoughton 302, Westby 308, Oregon 309, Dodgeville-Mineral Point 333, La Crosse Logan 333, Waunakee 400, Albany 405, Boscobel 409, Lake Geneva Badger 423, Whitewater 440, Sun Prairie 518, Beaver Dam 529, Burlington 530, Janesville Craig 533, DeForest 534, Monroe 584, South Milwaukee 602, Platteville 650, Racine Case 667, Darlington 673, Milton 846, Janesville Parker 852.
Brittany Rhyner led the D-P team taking 33rd in 20:30, She was followed by Mackenzie Hall 39th in 20:36, Drew Sandstrom 72nd in 21:26, Cassie McGraw 89th in 21:47 and Josie Jabs 100th in 22:02.
Rounding out their varsity were: Alexis Bauer 115th in 22:21 and Kennedy Stumpf 142nd in 22:56.
Dodge-Point coach Denny McGraw said about his varsity runners, "These ladies ran a nice race against a lot of Division 1 schools. They are gaining confidence and running better each week."
Audrey Janik of Wisconsin Lutheran won in 18:31 with Middleton's Sam Valentine next in 18:35.
The JV team took 19th out of 25 teams with 573 points.
Middleton walked away with 29 points to runner-up Neenah's 97.
D-P finishes were: Mariah Zoet 67th in 24:10, Alyssa Sullivan 86th in 24:43, Anacapri Peterson Wal 123rd in 26:55, Lara Bautzer 142nd in 28:14, Rachel McGauley 155th in 30:15.
McGraw reiterated about his JV, "The team placed 19th. Mariah Zoet led the JV and was followed by Alyssa Sullivan, Anacapri Peterson, Lara Bautzer and Rachael McGauley to help round out the scoring."
Middleton's Maya Gibson won in 21:43 with Arrowhead's Cameron Nowicki next in 21:47.
In the Freshmen-Sophomore race, Dodge-Point was 12th out of 14 teams with 276 points. Memorial won with 45 to Arrowhead's 75.
Finishes were: Avery Peterson 43rd in 22:58, Hannah Tremelling 48th in 23:27, Haley May 55th in 23:49, Sydney Judd 60th in 23:57, Macy Ahrens 70th in 24:27, Makayna Lemanski 83rd in 25:57.
"The team was led by Avery Peterson. We have a good group of freshmen/sophomores who scored in this race including Hannah Tremelling, Haley May, Sydney Judd, Macy Ahrens and Makayna Lemanski. They help make the whole team more competitive, McGraw said."
La Follette won the boys race with 70 points to Kimberly's 102.

Dodge-Point finishes were: Juan Navorro 67th in 17:22, Tanner Cullen 100th in 17:50, Isaac Grunow 135th in 18:15, Jordan May 153rd in 18:34, Adam Phillips 190th in 19:01, Dylan McGraw 194th in 19:09, John Phelan 218th in 19:50.
In talking about his boys varsity, McGraw said, "Juan Navarro and Tanner Cullen continue to be our top two runners for varsity each race. Isaac Grunow, Jordan May and Adam Phillips were the other scorers on varsity. Our boys' team is improving each and every race and are starting to be a unified and strong group. Dylan McGraw and John Phelan rounded out the varsity."
Memorial topped Arrowhead 35-40 for the top JV spot with Dodge-Point 20th out of 29 teams.
Arrowhead's David Widenski won in 17:18 with Memorial's Zachary Herman next in 17:27.
Dodge-Point finishes were: Luke Davis 62nd in 19:22, Ty Driscoll 106th in 20:19, Hunter Blalock 126th in 20:42, Stewart Thompson 128th in 20:46, John Davis 159th in 21:35, Conner Trocke 165th in 21:52.
"These boys ran hard and are pushing our varsity every time out," McGraw said.
Dodge-Point took 18th out of 21 teams in the Freshmen-Sophomore race with 507 points. Arrowhead win with 96 to La Follette's 110.
Dodge-Point finishes were: Noah Blalock 52nd in 19:08, Clay Venden 102nd in 20:32, Grant Lawton 104th in 20:34, David Nagel 111th in 20:41, Sean Wahlin 138th in 23:51, Josh Gorgen 139th in 24:03.
McGraw said, "The lead boys for Dodge-Point in this race were Noah Blalock, Clay Venden, Grant Lawton and David Nagel. They ran solid races and are showing improvement each week. Rounding out the scoring were Sean Wahlin and Josh Gorgen."
Arrowhead's Elijah DeVries won in 17:00.0 with Middleton's Sam Jaeger runner-up in 17:00.3.
