Along the Ad Routes

By Mike Reilly-mreilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com

Last Wednesday night I put the paper recyclable garbage out at the Chronicle
office like I usually do for Thursday morning pick-up. It was really windy
when I did that, but I placed the containers where the wind wasn't really hitting
them. Thursday morning I came to the office around 7:30 a.m. and the
wind had shifted. The papers were being sucked out of the containers as the
lids had blown open. I started to grab the papers that were nearby and got the
containers closed so more wouldn't come out. I heard a voice yell out "You
could get a ticket for that!" I turned and saw retired Sargeant Rosso
(Roseanne Rossing) heading my way. She has been filling in at the
Dodgeville Police Department as secretary - that is kitty corner to our office.
She then proceeded to help me collect papers until she had to go open the office.
I even went as far to the west as the Red Room to pick up the scattered
papers. I think we picked up almost all of them, but I'm sure a few were
missed. I thank her for her assistance and "not issuing me a ticket!"

Thursday was about as windy a day as we have had. Someone from the
City of Dodgeville had stopped at the Dodgeville Chamber office and asked
Lynn Price if the cornstalks could be taken down by the end of the week as
they wanted to put the winter holiday decorations up next week. She was
going to be out of town after Wednesday and Bob Kratochwill, Terry Carroll
and myself were the ones who put them up, so we said we would get 'er done.
We tentatively said Thursday afternoon would work. Anyway, Bob took it
upon himself to take them down and then called Terry to bring a trailer. I was
at work, so was left out of the production. Thanks Bob and Terry for taking
care of it on such a windy day!

Saturday I stopped at the Iowa County HCE (Iowa County Home and Community
Education) annual Holiday Fair. There was a silent auction for several
craft and candy items that members made. I waited until almost the last possible
minute to bid on a really beautiful wreath and got it for a great price.
Sorry Marietta, who thought she was going to get it! See above photo for
people getting some of the food ready for the HCE festival.

Saturday the 28th of November is "Small Business Saturday". We will have
events going on in Dodgeville starting with a FREE movie "PRANCER" at
10:30 a.m. at the Dodge Theatre. For entry into the theatre, though, it is asked
that you bring a non-perishable food item that will be donated to the Iowa
County Food Pantry. Santa will be at the theatre when the movie lets out as
well as the singing duo of Dave and Matty Olson with a few Christmas Carols
for the youngsters to enjoy. Starting at 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 "Photos with
Santa" will be taken at Cobblestone Coffee House in downtown Dodgeville
with either a $1 or a non-perishable food item to get you a photo or however
many you want. Again, proceeds/food items will go the Iowa County Food
Pantry - they are always in need of donated food, especially during the holidays.

There are other things planned for the holidays, so keep tabs on them in
the next few weeks! Also see an ad elsewhere in this paper for events.

Then the Packers lost to the hapless Lions at Lambeau Field Sunday. Maybe
me saying that the once 6-0 Packers may just end up 6-10 isn't too far off!
They have been playing pretty sad football.
